Just wondering, can bfme2 and bfme1 run on Mac??

FYI, Kwen is right... Imdrar's posted solution is the ONLY way that works for some (including me). I tried all other Googled solutions I could find...

- "Run as Admin" = makes no difference!
- Compatibility mode for Win XP sp2 and sp3 = doesn't work!
- Copy the Game.dat from the three games installed on an XP-system (my stationary), and replce with the ones in the Win7 system = doesn't work!
- Download from LOTR Files or make a Options.ini for the hidden Roaming folder = works!

What Imdrar posted is the solution. I've done this four times now, BFME1, BFME2, ROTWK, and RC mod.
I don't know why, but adding the options.ini manually fixes the issue.


I wish I could find the roaming folder for BFME1 though??? :mellow:
All of the other "solutions" above either crashed the game in loading or gave the friggin "Please insert correct CD-ROM"... ? :p

NOW - only one tiny problem left... SEE won't run! :p

The original game works but not SEE ...

I had this same problem when I upgraded my computer to be horrified by BFME2 not working


TRY THIS :

Create a dummy MOD using the bare minimal , a pure INI with one or two changes

Then replace the files with SEE files as necc ..

FYI : SEE runs perfectly on my windows 7 Pro 64

Hope you solve this Naz ...

Hope this is the right place to post... =p

My new laptop (HP Pavilion dv6) with Windows 7, 64 bit, won't run any of the BFME games. :p Anyone know a verified fix?

Well yeah I know =p Thanks... but a new pc has less errors than an old one, I guess we can agree on that (virus, conflicts etc). But after some investigation, it seems that MANY have the same problem with several games on Win7 64... the "PLease insert the correct CD-ROM" after enabling the Win XP compatibility mode


Before reading any of this, please keep in mind that absolutely NONE of this is illegal as long as you have a retail copy of the game you want to use it for.

I did have the same problem. My advice would be the following:

1. Download daemon tools (the free version) here: http://www.daemon-tools.cc/eng/home

2. Download the fixed no disc exe file for bfme here: http://www.gamecopyworld.com/ .

3. After getting both of these, disable compatibility mode by right clicking the exe or the shortcut to the exe file and remove the check from the compatibility mode check box

4. Open up daemon tools, click the disc with the green '+' sign and browse for the fixed exe you got from gamecopyworld.

5. Once you have found it, click on it, then it will show up in the daemon tools window. Click on it in daemon tools and click the disc with the play symbol in order to mount the image.

6. All that you have to do after that is click on your shortcut or the bfme exe file and run the game.

I have windows 7 64 bit and it works perfectly for me.
Had a few problems with the mod tools though.

Honestly, I don't know. The one thing I do know though is that I was having the same problem that Nazgul was having, and it was fixed by doing this. I think it has something to do with running in compatibility mode and my reasoning for this is because when I tried to run in compatibility mode with the CD, the game would not run, and if I tried to run in compatibility mode with Daemon tools the game would not run. After I disabled compatibility mode, however, the problem vanished.

Actually, the reason the Options.ini fix works has nothing to do with your operating system. It's your screen's display resolution.

After I bought my new laptop, I installed the games....and sure enough, they wouldn't work. I found through some internet sleuthing a post on EA's forums (I believe that is where it was) that EA didn't put in recognition for widescreen display resolutions. BFME I defaults to 1024x768 and refuses to give you any option for a resolution other than 1024x768 or 800x600 in the ingame settings menu. BFME II and ROTWK are worse; they just crash on start-up and refuse to load at all. Manually placing your own custom modified Options.ini file with that altered "Resolution=" line forces any of the three games to the display resolution you dictate. What's crazy is that the games.....play just fine.

Also, did some quick testing. You can also force the resolution using the "-xres" and "-yres" command line arguments in a shortcut for the game. This method has two drawbacks though. First, you have to add that to every shortcut (not a good idea when you have 20+ mod shortcuts for the game you would also have to edit). Secondly, the "1024x768" resolution still shows in the screen resolution field on the ingame settings menu. Say, tweak the sound volume, apply changes, and the game will change to 1024x768 because that is what it thinks you want (forcing resolution in the Options.ini merely results in a blank field).
You're better off using Options.ini to force your resolution across the board.

This, of course, explains why the BFME games will work out of the box for some people and not others on these newer OSes. Some of them got a new computer with a newer OS...and a bigger and different screen resolution that is more common today than it was back when the BFME games were released.

I went and put together a small download with instructions and an Options.ini file. Now it's readily available for anyone should they need it.

For the record, I'm playing the BFME games on my native resolution of 1920x1080. Everything is normal, except that the main menu shell is a bit stretched to fit (not bad enough to care/notice) and I can't zoom out as far ingame (which, according to this interesting thread, has some underlying reasons that may explain EA's decision to not put in widescreen resolution).

Well, my native resolution is 1920 x 1080. And after I installed the game it started right up. Of course, everything looked stretched since it was trying to apply a 4:3 resolution to my widescreen. So I think the problem is a little more complicated than that.

Yeah I forced my resolution to 1920 x 1080 with the options.ini. Everything displays just like you said, but also, the spellstore doesn't display right. There are some black areas.
But yeah, other than that, the game runs fine.

Hmmm... the only issue is that BFME does not support widescreen format. Some of the 2-D interface art is stretched in widescreen. I really need to write a tutorial on how to increase the resolution of the game for widscreen monitors while still maintaining the original aspect ratio.

Well, yeah, that was my point....EA did not put in support for widescreen ratios in BFME. Personally, the stretching is pretty tolerable. Though if you know of some way to have it in both widescreen AND with no stretching, I'm all ears! :lol:
