Those numbers really beggar belief. 32% Yes to 68% No, whatever, maybe that's just how people feel, but that translates to 10 regional Yes votes and 429 regional No votes. Surely that single fact is enough to tell everyone that the current system is beyond shit?

IMHO, the system of voting in UK is not the only problem; the problem is also, that the electorate keep voting for the same politics: out of the top three Lib/Lab/Cons you only get slightly different shades of the same thing ... pro-EUSSR, more import of welfare-dependent immigrants, more spending, more dhimmitude, etc.

BTW, congrats to the SNP! ... rather interesting result ;)

Question concerning the UK electoral system: does this include gerrymandering of the borders of constituencies?

Yes. Basically every five years the ruling clique switch it around a bit to make it easier for themselves. I guess that's one of the perks of being in charge.

The referendum itself was slanted anyway. No offer was given of proportional representation.

But well done, Britain. Condemned us to another 50 years of the same shit until someone else comes along and thinks change might be worth a try.

Oh, those 'someone else' are on their way already, so change might might be on the horizon.

Democracy is not perfect. In fact it's probably the worst political system you can imagine ... except for all the other political systems, of course.

About the only positive thing about democracy is, that the people can replace the government, if they are dissatisfied with those politicians in power ...

... except of course in case of the political system becoming dysfunctional, i.e. when the politicians in power becomes alienated from the people, and choses to replace the population with some other people, who might be less troublesome and more grateful:

UK will be like paradise ... you get rich on benefits without working

Tunisian and Libyan refugees who fled bloody revolutions in their home countries are clustered in an area of the French capital dubbed Little Tripoli.

The migrants will pay people smugglers up to £1,000 a time to sneak them into the UK. They expect to make the money back within weeks by scrounging off state handouts.

And they believe the British Government - which backed the uprisings in Tunisia and Libya - will welcome them with open arms.

A 22-year-old Tunisian called Ali said: "Britain is like paradise. Friends who have already made it into Britain have told me about the riches you can make there without working.

"I hear the British benefits system is generous. Britain supported our revolution so we will be more than welcome there."

His countryman Noureddine Bouzoumta, 30, said: "There is nothing for us in France. I sleep outside. I hear the Government in Britain gives money. I want to go to England. I will be rich. I will receive benefits.
