It's been a while since I took a look at SEE and wow... in very imprecise and vulgar terms, shit has went down.

Let me see if I get it: the old SEE is scrapped and the new SEE - DC is in development? Did someone find out what happened to Sulk?

I'm in university right now, so free time is pretty much something I do not have. However, as of late, I've been remembering the good days playing BFME. Since RJ-RotWK hasn't received an update in ages, I thought of SEE, I hadn't looked at it in years so it must have been in version 1k — then I found this (lol).
I remember changing some of the .ini files to edit battalions, but that's as far as I went on modding the game. Therefore, I'm most likely unable to help, though I've read you speaking of coding various times and am wondering how that code looks like (posted this question on another thread).

I know this question has probably been asked a ton of times, but SEE has so many sub-forums and different stickies that I do not know where to search — has a playable beta from SEE - DC been put out yet? When can we expect one, if not? Is there any stable version from the old SEE? (I'd like to be able to play before exam epochs start >.<)

That is the old version, which is "dead" for me now :-P Progress on the new version is very good and the frst facion (Moria) is currently being polished before moving on to the next (Erebor). When the second is done, the first official release will SEE the light of day :thumbsupxd:

My view of strategy games has always been the StarCraft standard: units that fulfill a unique role in the army, unique factions and importance of army placement. I see a lot of mods in which you have a ton of factions and then archers of eastern mirkwood, and western mirkwood, and central mirkwood, and nowhere in mirkwood, and mercenary taverns if you are still not satisfied. If the game is being redone from scratch, it is a good opportunity to try and make it more strategical-based.

That's what we're doing, and we're not adding a million factions with a gazillion units, but rather keeping it somewhat tight, so that we really get the rock, paper, scissor effect and units are unique and differentiated not only by looks and name...

True, the link seems to be broken... Not sure who else has Beta 4.5 as of now =/ But no worries... the new version is in progress.

Just made an account here to say thanks for all the great work. I've played this game on and off for a while, just redownloaded it and was pleasantly surprised to find this mod still alive and well. As for download links, 4.5 works for me, just downloaded it and I can upload it somewhere else if it isn't working for others. I would also be willing to beta test the new version if needed. Again, thanks for the amazing mod and for continuing development!

Try searching for The Special Extended Edition mod download on Google. ;)

Hey!

I've recently started playing BFME again. With S.E.E mod of course ;-)

I remembered it turning my BFME experience to a whole new level back in the winter 2007 with the release of version 4.5. Thanks!

- Units buildtime:

Don't burn me yet. I understand the mods purpose is to be slow-paced, and you get a significant buildtime bonus if you upgrade your barracks (or equal depending on faction) but the long buildtime in early game makes the player construct farms (or equal..) witch gets you a very strong economy in early game. And since you don't have to worry about enemy raids in the early stages (5 min or so) you can have several units under construction and start building several heroes.

The "early-game hero" loose it's value since you can have Gandalf and a strong standing force below 10 min mark. If a level 1 barrack would have the buildtime of a level 3 barrack the game would force the player to build units to defend itself and make a hero like Borormir a excellent choice for leading your troops against early attackers. It feels like his addition, and equal heroes for other factions, to the game is lost as it is now.

Is there anything planned for this, or is it gonna be left as it is? :-)

- Battalion/Horde:

The good faction basic units like Gondor Spearmen, Phalanxes, Lorien Archers and so on, are they still gonna be 15 in one battalion?
Or is it gonna be like 5-10?
I think a horde of 15 is great for orcs, goblins and uruks but not for the good factions. What do you think? :-)

Thanks again for a great mod!

Due to some password trouble and what not I lost access to my old account, Jonasking.

Drop me a PM and tell me a little about you. Age, location, how long youve been playing BFME and SEE and how much time you have to test.

Howdy there. I'm an avid BFME2 player. My name is Bruce. I've played BFME 1 & 2 since it came out. I play its mods released whenever they come out on moddb. I am 30. I live in Ontario, California. I , on average, have 90 minutes to play daily. I hope with the Hobbit coming out that there will renewed interest in LOTR Middle Earth games. I know BFME3 is a pipedream, but a tolkien gaming fan can wish!

Nice to see this mod not dead. It's a shame this game looks worse every year though. The models and textures could do with an improvement.

I think you will like most of the models in SEE, as they are indeed improved by "my" awesome modelers around the world. However, they and the game itself wont compare to the latest 2012/13-ish games off course. This is a 2006-title :-P
