This topic will feature several maps Ive been either editing, renaming or building from scratch.

The first and my primary edit is EA's Shire map. I dont understand their obsession with surrounding the shire portion of this map with what appears to be the Old Forest. So Ive edited out the entire outer portion to have rolling hills covered with green grass and flowers. There will numerous wandering paths and I plan to remove any structures that arent of the hobbit hole type.

I will rename this map Tuckborough.

EA's Buckland map is a pretty nice map and I cant really find too much fault with it - except maybe the mountainous areas and that theres nothing about it that resembles Buckland. No brandywine bridge, no bucklebury ferry no High hay. So I will rename this map Greenhill country.

Posted Image

EA's cevil shire map from the campaign does feature several items that correspond with buckland - So I will convert it over to skirmish and make some minor edits.

Lastly and most important will be a proper Shire map featuring Hobitton and Bywater as seen in the films. Ive found a map that has the locations of everything built by the production crew for both the new Hobbit film and the LOTR. Despite the way the sequences were cut together in the film this map is accurate- Ive flipped it because I prefer to orient the maps with north being the top.

Right now its just a few landmarks to get myself oriented, but I do plan to eventually add the roads and the other homes. Itll be built in an odd fasion with the terrain coming last.

Me too, Ive always feared it though. The film was so choppy and very difficult to discern where thing were located in relation to each other. Especially the sequences with Gandalf. I was never confident enough to try it until now.

Spent about 5 hours on the evil shire map, now called Buckland, I should have said "major" editing. But its coming along nicely.

Principle retexturing is now complete.

Next step is to go through and scale trees, add start points, gollum spawn points and make further edits to some of the hobbit homes (namely bagend and the party field).

Well I've finished the new buckland map. With a few extra changes: its now a night map, and also features a Ford where bucklbury ferry is located. The map is 4 player

I like it but Personally I think the river needs to be wider as the ford for the ferry to cross is a little small compared to then one in the film, Just my opinion though.

Seeing as the Green dragon is no longer there you could extend the river that way

That looks a bit more like the movies (good), though I'm not sure if that is what Fudge had in mind.

Yes that's more like it :thumbsupsmiley: , It is pretty much what I was thinking of because If you where going to make a ford/lake the size of the one in the film it would take up half the map.

I'm pretty sure its not that big LOL. I just looked at that scene and you can kinda see the opposite shore through the mists.

I used an image of the ferry from the film for the maps pic.

The one he has now looks like it should be, as far as I can remember from the movie, they move at a relatively slow pace with the raft thing, it takes them no more than a minute to get to the other side or something like that, so what NJM has made looks logical. Remember, Hobbits are a bit smaller than humans, so for them its a little bit more to travel than for humans :p
