Soooo...for our own good, shall we all draw a line under canon at this point right now, and assume everything after will be terrible?

Don't really know why anyones complaining about this. I doubt they can ruin the series further, if anything it will allow a clean slate and some fresh films to be released. Though I was never really a Star Wars fan, I just disliked the last three and Lucas in general.

I appreciate that Disney did not exactly ruin Pixar and Marvel. However, I don't see them improving on the slump that SW has been in for the past ten years or so. I also doubt they will care much for the expanded universe, which up to this point has managed to do it's own thing after the original trilogy. A sequel is almost guaranteed to mess with a great deal of established canon for that period, which directly affects this mod. Thankfully 2015 is a long way off, hopefully we'll be finished by then...

I was just going to post this. I don't know what to think. What the hell is Episode VII? Please don't tell me they're going to Clone Wars the Thrawn Trilogy timeline :xx:. Feels like a schism in the fanbase waiting to happen.

If only...I expect they will completely ignore the EU. Even ignoring that, surely they will want to use the established characters, in which case I don't know where they'll find appropriate actors. The original cast are all too old...

That is what I meant by going Clone Wars on the timeline... ignoring the EU.

Could be this is the reason we haven't seen or heard from the live-action television series yet. Doesn't make numerical sense, but could post-RotS be VII?

Personally I advise patience, who knows maybe we'll be pleasantly surprised... As for the live action series, it could well be possible that it is the reason behind the transaction. Maybe spending more long years developing new technologies in order to produce what they wanted was just too much, hence the sell to a mega-corp who, literally, has a shit load of money, it's own distribution networks and everything else you can imagine.

My hopes are that the new movies will cover the Thrawn trilogy but a Dark Times trilogy is also quite possible. They did say Star Wars VII, VIII, IX and a new movie every two or three years. So maybe independent stories that mesh together once in a while, like what they're doing with Marvel.

As for EU canon it is my belief that our love for the setting and the stories is both a great and perverse thing; with all the different interpretations and points of views running through the EU medias, is it really surprising that conflicts arise? To the best of my knowledge it was never once mentioned that every bits and pieces of the EU was supposed to make a cohesive collective whole. Now, don't get me wrong, it is what I would want, what I always wanted since I was a little boy; it's just not the way it went. It is the personal meaning that we attribute to SW that makes it special and it is also the reason why there will never be a grand consensus regarding the EU. There is as much different interpretations of what constitutes the proper way Star Wars should be ordered than there are fans. All in all Star Wars as a whole is just like a tapestry, it is woven by many people that imprint their own vision on it, the threads that make it are not all of the same fabric and the images on it's surface are always a reflection of someone else's interpretation of a legend. It is a beautiful work of art but it is not a HD picture.

Probably the best thing for the franchise, though possibly trouble for the mod. Disney isn't known for being terribly supportive of fan uses of their properties. The 501st guys are having conniptions all over Facebook right now.

I am not sure what to think about this, LFL is already ruining the Clone Wars era for fans like me.

Yeah, it's definitely too early. I think I'd prefer independent stories, but if that were the case, I don't see how you can keep up the episode numbering. What are the odds they recast main characters and dive back into the CW or GCW?

To be honest, I wouldn't mind some G-canon (D-canon?) housecleaning in the EU - if it's done well. There are a few stories that are superb on their own merits, but many others that objectively aren't great.

With George Lucas gone, maybe Star Wars will actually be good again. Only one way to find out... experimentation! The SW franchise is already over-marketed and ruined, so they might as well make another. Problem now is that Disney is sucking the last remaining amount of marrow out of science fiction's bones.

I'll give them benefit of the doubt. Disney turned Marvel around and I think we could get something good out of this. But they'll need to tread lightly.

Also, someone get Zahn on the horn. With the utmost haste.

Just a stray thought. I seem to remember years ago hearing that when GL wrote SW, he wrote Episodes IV to VI first, with the aim to writing I-III and VII to IX later.

Are we going to see his schoolboy notebooks dusted off and 3 new unknown episodes squeezed into the canon timeline????

Don't forget, Lucas has influenced the EU... mostly by what you haven't seen done with it. I don't think there are any "missing scripts" though. Judging from his early comments, it seemed like he had only a mental outline of I-III prior to TPM production. Vader falling into the pit of fire comes to mind as one detail that was not quite the same. I'm sure he had something in mind for VII-IX (I have a theater handout from the first Special Editions with those episodes listed), but it's tough to say whether that's relevant or not anymore given how the films came out as the saga of Anakin Skywalker... which makes sense enough to me, until you start calling the new one VII when it cannot be a continuation of that.

So, PR, what are your plans in the event that the EU is, well a victim of the Big Crunch?
