Thorin Oakenshield

King of Durins Folk (Leadership to all nearby friendly dwarf units and heroes) lvl 1

Oakenshield (equips the oakenshield) lvl 6

Balin

Dwarf Lord (leadership to all nearby troops)

Durin's Axe (+80% Damage, +20% Speed) lvl 10

Dwalin

N/A

Kili

Thorin's Nephew (+15% Speed and +10% Damage when near Thorin Oakenshield) lvl 1

Toggle Weapon (Toggle between Bow and Sword) lvl 1

Bofur

Miner (+50% resource boost to nearby Mines and Forges) lvl 3

Bilbo

Sting (frightens nearby enemy units)

the One Ring (becoms invisible)

Units:

Warriors of the Iron Hills

N/A

Grim Hammers of Erebor

N/A

Buildings

Forge

(Provides Metal as a resource, Reduces cost of Buildings)

Mine

(Settlement Plot; Provides Gold as a resource)

Braacks (i'll think of a better name later)

Trains Grim Hammers and Iron Hills Warriors

thats what i have so far.

now i NEED coders, modelers, texturers, mappers, designers, and a website.

As usual. No one will join unless you show work you yourself already have done.  6 new factions will take a LONG time. some mods here like tdh and such only add one faction and have been going for about 2-6 years. and they still arent done with that one faction. Start with a single faction being added and then work your way up to all 6.

People will not join unless there is a complete plan, some work already done, etc.

As for the website. I could help with the website but you will have to get hosted first. Which wont happen until you have a crap ton of work done.

Example:

No Hosting:

  • 1 map
  • 1-3 units/structures coded in
  • 2 new models
  • 2 new textures
  • Dont show commitment

Hosting:

  • 10 maps
  • 5-15 units/structures coded in
  • 10 new well done models maybe even 15
  • New textures for existing units and new units. Not crappy textures, well done textures that look at least as good as EA's
  • Does show commitment and the ability to do work

-- Dont let this discourage you. I am sure with the right dedication and commitment you could do it and succeed but beware that you will have one huge crap ton of work to do. haha :p

That's near-enough word-for-word what I was going to say, Apollo :evilthinkin:. What he said is correct, we've had a number of mods (including some of mine, I admit) who have lots of big ideas, which soon die after running into an obstacle, so as aforementioned, the greatest skill needed for success, never mind hosting, is commitment.

But if you plan to commit to it, I wish you good luck, and look forward to seeing this bloom.

Your plan is very optimistic. I would recommend you take a different path:

Iron Hills - Erebor wasn't populated during The Hobbit. Apart from Thorin's Company, the dwarves in the story are from the Iron Hills. Dain, Thorin and a few key dwarves should be heroes. Not everyone. And Bilbo, of course.

Gundabad - It sounds better than "Orcs" and "Goblins", and will be better suited as one faction. Azog, Goblin King and Gollum as heroes. Have goblins be the cannon fodder FREE units, while the Orcs are the tougher units. I would not have the Necromancer involved in any way, and Smaug is hard.. Perhaps a summon like the Balrog would be fine.

Mirkwood - Elves is a faction that should be created, albeit as Mirkwood. Rivendell could supply a couple of units through training or summoning powers. Thranduil, Legolas and a melee hero. From what I've read about the fictional Tauriel, she's basically a clone of Legolas, with a bow and two daggers. Boooring! So I would add a real fighter, up-front and personal. I would not have the White Council here, bar Galadriel if you find a place for her.

Focus on those, and you will have a higher chance of sucess. Then, you might think of other ways to implent the other factions you set up.

Esgaroth - Dale wasn't populated in the timeframe. I would have Bard and 2-3 hordes of Bowmen of Esgaroth a summoning power for the Iron Hills.

Rhovanion - There is no need for this faction. Stick Beorn and Beorings in as a summon, Radagast aswell, and give both Iron Hills and Mirkwood a Summon Eagles power.

i have totally rethunk this. its just going to be a dwarf faction with Dain and Thorin's Company as heroes. simple as that.

We didn't say that. You didn't say that at first. True, you'll never complete anything if you go round with that as your motto. If you try to do something big in sections, you'll succeed. If you try to do something big all at once, however, you will fail, as most of us here have done before now. Perseverance is your ally, keep it in mind.

Also, try to edit your last post. I know you think its easier to just post and then post again i had the same issues at first but trust me it can be helpful. How about you completely redo your first post in this topic and then state that you have below. What Irene says is completely true. Perseverance is your best ally when it comes to modding/ adding a whole faction.

And in all honesty thorin, it's difficult to get hosted. I didn't think it was as difficult as it was either, but come to find out it takes a lot, due to our mod turn over rate. My project I am currently working on has now become an indecent project, with credit of my noldor barracks to Irene hawnetyne. It is a lengthy process, and will come with determination. What I suggest is that you start building it yourself (kinda keep it quite), and when you've made substantial progress with models and maps post a thread in the showcase showing all the progress you've made as we'll as your level of determination and commitment. Then maybe you can be hosted. As for private forums for a team to communicate, I got my mod hosted on moddb and used the forums available on there. I also added a staff section so my previous members and idealists could access it. And lastly, for a website you can make a free weebly site, or if you no nothing about html you can create a site at sites.google.com for free and choose from multiple templates for your sites appearance. :) I hope that helped.

for Mordor, i just plan on adding Azog as a hero, Gundabad Orcs, Gundabad Wargs, Hunter Orcs, and Warg Riders. then add a summon for Goblins, which summons 3 hordes of Goblin-Town Goblins & the Goblin King. then, if i have time, i might add an elven minifaction to Rohan and expand it with Thranduil, Legolas & Tauriel as heroes, and Mirkwood archers as units.

We'll sir, I cannot seem to find Anything on the forums that you have posted... So I'm gonna have to speak for most of revora at once here.. We generally like to see some of the work YOU'VE done, not your team, before we all jump in at once for a lost cause. I don't doubt what you're capable of, but a few screen shots couldn't hurt your chances.

Don't be so hard on yourself.

There's actually a lot of value in the role of a concept designer/whatever-it-is-you-labelled-yourself-up-there. To be honest, I'd value a great designer much more than an excellent artist. There's a lot of artists around :p Brilliant designers are gold.

Also mapping is quite a specialised skill if you can do it well, hell, I've had these games since they came out and never really figured out how to texture nicely in WB  :thumbsupxd:

The problem is that as modding is a voluntary type thing, it's all very ego based - so unless you can prove to other talented people that your mod is worth your time, you're not going to get so far. That's not to say your idea is bad. You just need to prove to all the grumpy old men that you're worth it :D

Don't give up, but just take a measured approach to the big ideas.

+ Take the encouraging things that all these other folk have said :p

I meant nothing negatively towards you when I was saying those things. and duke is correct. If this is a mod that you really care about, and you want it to be made, you can do it. If you map, you can make a few, and post them here. Also, if you made a plan for your mod, and laid it out in full, people would be more interested because they would know exactly what you had in mind :)

Getting "mad" as it seems like that post suggest wont help your cause. Look around for topics where people ended up getting banned. Before you go off on a not thinking what i am gonna post streak and it ends up being "bad" posts = arguments and or fights. Everyone here is only looking to help you get started with the bare-bones  if you let them i think in the long run you will greatly appreciate it.. :p
