Hello chums, much like the rest of you I was enthralled with the promotional screenshots, trailers and video diaries released around 2003 and early 2004. Alas certain aspects didn't make it into the -what was still brilliant- commercial version of the game, therefore I write as a request/plea to all those striving to recreate and implement the absent assets I detail below.

Now I could take the initiative to read and understand the art of BFME modding, but I am a easily confused old fart who barely scrapes by with copied information I put into map.ini. Therefore I address this to those more capable and are already in the process.

1: The Cave Troll's neck chain

oixk.jpg du53.jpg

2: The possibility of grasslands (however I suppose this was removed for the sake of the game's engine)

xbpy.jpg

3: Gandalf's carefree stance

k8lx.jpg rhxm.jpg guoq.jpg

4: Moving Grass (due to being walked over)

99ck.jpg

5: The bizarre Gondor castle, in truth I prefer the current one but it is still interesting with its external farms and strange internal buildings

bztn.jpg gwj5.jpg 62tg.jpg
suii.jpg ff6l.jpg 8v9m.jpg

6: The Edoras map advertised in one of the inside the battle videos - I'd love to recreate it with those great looking walls and buildings.

7: Those marvellous emotions

rv8k.jpg

8: Aragorn's Bow, I'll admit I'm probably the only one to miss this however I was disappointed by its absence.

All right, maybe I just miss everything because I don't have it and if the tables where turned I'd probably miss the assets we have now. So I suppose the purpose of this topic is just a nice bit of nostalgia, which is always nice.

I've got grass in my mod implemented differently but it isn't squashable, it'd be interesting to reproduce that effect.

The green grass... fantastic, would be so much fun

"To know what question we may reasonably propose is in itself a strong evidence of sagacity or intelligence. For if a question be in itself incongruous and begs for uncalled-for answers, it holds, sometimes, besides embarrassing the proposer, the disadvantage to seduce the unguarded listener into giving absurd answers, and we are presented with the ridiculous spectacle of one (as the ancients said) milking the he-goat, and the other holding a sieve beneath."

Really cool finds, I love this Edoras and was also wondering why the Edoras in the evil campaign looked so different.

On Gamespot along with many others - http://www.gamespot....e-earth/images/

If you did reproduce it I'd be very pleased, the tutorial video on heroes shows it happening.

Very much agreed

I believe the Edoras they show wouldn't have had the space capable of supporting both the number of buildings and units required for a fortress map. However its more likely they were being pedantic.

The chains for the cave trolls that you can find in the wild, the emotion, Aragorn will have a bow from lvl 1 - 5 on Rohan's side, Edoras is yet still a maybe in other words being worked on, Gandalf we'll see about him when I come to him, the grass I am still trying to add so it may fit, and I'll have to consider the Castles, I like them too, but i'll have to ask other if they might also like The Old Castle.

To get the shrubbery to move when units pass them add the following to your gamedata.ini

PushAsideShrubs = Yes

Maximan your mod will be the only mod besides Lone Wolf that I will play, simply because I'd like to know the feel of the beta version of the game.

And to answer your question, my choice would be to implent the old Gondor castle, just because it is possible :p!

Same, but more because it's more believable. Farms are meant to be outside castles! And it looks really cool :p

Most of the required wall models are in W3D.big. Not sure if they have proper textures applied, but the textures I can see in that shot could easily be composed from other Gondor building textures.

EDIT: I think the structures inside the castle were re-added in BFME2 as Minas Tirith map props.

Fav - The Balrog being able to pick up hapless units and ignite them into so much ash.

SEE-DC has the Moria Troll hero with a chain. =D
