I know the malts I'm used to seeing are made with cheep chocolate that has zero luster, so that's probably pure-grade cane chocolate that was freshly baked and applied to the candies. But again... one would have to unhinge their own jaw in order to eat them with the cake.

dipped in syrup perhaps? That cake sure had a luster to it.
Aight, mandatory cake image. This one is for the ladies.
it's called: "chocolate fudge cake," though I suspect its more a brownie with chocolate fudge icing. Got to try this at a course one time, old childhood friend turned chef who made it, brilliant thing, messy as hell but hella good.

One of the few chocolate cakes I would go out of my way to eat.

Well you can pull them of your slice and eat them in your hand if you so wish but it was more appearance over practicality.

Or you could just eat them whole. They're not bad.

There's the other way of doing it
They give the cake that tiny little bit of healthy eating for people who are really concerned but I doubt it's going to be enough to balance out the near half kilo of chocolate that went into it.

Yeah that's the problem I have with most cakes. I don't like the heaviness.

Here are some Dutch classics.
"Kruimelvlaai" (Crumb Pie)
While I wouldn't go so far as to call it the "best cake evar", it's often the best among the offerings at random birthday celebrations.
It's a pie, if you hadn't noticed, filled with pudding. It gets its name from the crumbs on top, which Wikipedia tells me are made from sugar and butter. Either way, they're tasty.
Also available with apple and other fillings.
"Bossche Bol" (Ball from 's-Hertogenbosch)
It's a ball filled with whipped cream, covered in chocolate...nuff said?
While the original has dark, I prefer mine with milk chocolate.
Strawberry Pie
A caky bottom, strawberry mousse, strawberries in jelly. Hmmmmm, strawberry.

Bossche Bol? My god... the thought makes me nauseous. How do you eat that stuff?

Bossche Bol sounds kind of like a Profiterole or a Éclair in ball form both of which I do like (ok an unnatural love).
It's often overlooked but sometimes I love me a simple Carrot Cake the best food isn't always decadent.

Yeah, Bossche Bol is the one that stands out for me too... I just wish it was bigger.
