I believe this was done for balance reasons, but seeing as Chrono Legionaries can still attack buildings this change ends up feeling a little odd. Any alternative ideas? I think just for the sake of consistency that both units should either be able or unable to attack buildings since they both use the same weapon type.
Charon tank can't attack buildings

If you're looking for a lore explanation, attempting to eliminate a building in the speed that the Charon does units would vaporize it's circuits.

If Charon could eliminate structures that easily, than just imagine a Chronosphere + Charon combination. You will lose the game in seconds.

Unless of course make Charon the Epic Unit of the EA and allow it to take out structures
DID SOMEBODY SAY DERP?
Libra: The Floor is Ice!
Malver: Under the guidance of Lord Yuri.
Rahn: What are we waiting for?
...
Lord Yuri: I have taught you all well, be of one mind, one vision, proselytes!

Then they'd need another T3 Tank. Maybe some sort of Chrono Tank...

Interesting that gives me an idea - maybe the Charon could be allowed to attack buildings, but upon destroying the building any Charons attacking it overload and self-destruct, so it could be used as a last resort attack

Charon tank don't need to attack buildings, period.
If you want Charon tank attacking buildings then put Chrono Legionary/ 5 of them into IFV/Battle Fortress and have fun evaporating structures.

Another lore reason (I can do this all day): Charons are expensive pieces of equipment, and Siegfried doesn't like the "self destruct" option to be installed on his work too much, so onboard failsafes would cancel out any attempts to target somthing it's not prepared to target. Same reason the Chinese don't rig their Nuwas to have a demo option.

At that, I find it surprising no one mentioned why Charon can't do anything against old Centy. Or why Master Minds can't affect structures too.
Let's face it. 90% of the questions are solved by looking at engine limitations and not the lore.

Yeah, kinda like how a single foot soldier takes the same strength for an adept to mind control as a seafaring ship.

Possible actually.

We all know it is possible. Yuri Prime, or MO2.0's Chinese Emperor Tank, can give testimony to this.
