Time has come to start sculpting these... But to minimize rigging problems later I want to plan ahead. What model do you think I should base these buggars on? I'm probably gonna make a setup like the Hunter Orcs, with separate bodies and heads. Like two bodies and maybe three heads or so. I will try my best to make these guys as low poly as possible, and I'm thinking maybe the regular goblin SKL would work best? Any other ideas?

For some reason gollum seemed like a good fit to me. But it's almost like they should be a hybrid of on all 4 legs and 2 legs which doesn't exist. Would it possible to intermix a couple models with the gollum anims and a couple models with a goblin anims? Maybe I'm reaching on this one. I gotta rewatch the scenes with the goblin town goblins

Nah, Gollum wouldn't suit them. The use weapons, and they move about roughly as normal Orcs. They're just a bit lower to the ground, and move faster.

So I'd go for normal Orcs.

Yeah... seems like that. I was more thinking that they could climb walls, but then again - I'm probably only gonna use them as slave units to Great Goblin, so normal orc anims might be best.

I'd have gone with Gollum too, but as Lauri said... I'd recommend the Goblin Warriors, really. They're far more hunched than the Orcs. Possibly the Goblin King instead.

I agree Irene. Gollum sounds interesting, but it's probably better with orc anims, due to the enormous variety and loads of attack anims, which gollum don't have =/ Next question is rigging related. I am working on the basic shape now, and I really would like to tilt the head forwards, to make them hunched like in the movie, but I assume that will create rigging problems is the head is off from the head bone in the orc SKL, right?  :whathuh:

I was thinking about what my team mate said about my models beeing "over the top"... I think for these units, maybe it is over the top to make randomization with multiple heads and bodies. :smile2ap: This is just gonna be a slave horde after all, and it saves me some trouble when coding. So I think I'm gonna go with just this generic look for all of them, kind of like in the vids below. The Moria Orcs have generic faces, so why not these guys too. They're all goblins after all =) And since rigging my models has proven to be somewhat difficult due to models not fully matching bones, this is really not the unit to spend too much time on  :trickydick:

Btw, for reasons of matching bones like that, this model does not have quite as long arms as the Weta models, I guess that would fugg up the rigging with weapons.

Looks like a good start. I'm thinking the shoulders should be a bit broader though.

I think the regular Orc-skl (muorcwarr_skl) would be best, because they are nearly the same then in the movie.

Glad u like it =) Likeness will be much better with paint... despite that I can't make the arms and legs as long as I would like. If I do, we end up with same problems as the Goblin King when rigging, so I guess I have to sacrifice some accuracy  :flameblast:

:themenace: Hehe yeah, the warts are kinda nice, right?...

I think the reglar orc anims will fit these guys very well. For the Hunter Orcs I might go for more humanoid moves to differentiate them.

Made a second head for the minions. I will do a third, to randomize between those. I might set it up with three body types as well. One skinny, one mormal and one that is a little obese...
