Hi I'd like to change or replace the voices of some of the units in the game - particularly the Hailstorm PF unit and that awful Pokemon internet meme that it uses to something that isn't completely annoying (no offense to the voice actors, but the last thing I want to hear in a game is 4chan-ish type references). What program do I need to change the voicework myself? Thanks.

You would need a form of mix unprotector, xcc mixer and the know how to change the files around in the right way. I would just highly suggest against messing with game files, if they annoy you, just don't use them

It's an unfunny internet meme which comes from the game and it sticks out like a sore thumb. Ideally I'd like to just remove that single line and keep the rest of the voicework for that unit.

 

Sounds more like you're butthurt that I don't "dig" references to a certain video game which you're probably a fan of  - I don't expect the modders to remove the line - I'd just like to mod the game myself and remove it.

Pokemon's not 4chan related, but most of these type of memes make me think of grown men who's idea of a "hobby" is hanging out on 4chan and posting pornographic photoshops of video games or children's shows (and I don't enjoy visualizing something that depressing when I'm playing C&C). But not going to start a juvenile argument here about this.

If it's not funny, it still justified being there, considering that the Hailstorm's attacks deliver a TON of damage - they're indeed super effective at their job. It's as a fitting phrase as anything else the unit says.

If you really wanna go against total silly Pokémon thingies, Oxidizer with his OXY OXYYYY and DIZER! lines would have been your target.

And for your information - I prefer Digimon.

I didn't catch that one - I'll remove it too when I get the chance, thanks. And yes I agree that Digimon is cooler (though I never really had much contact with it growing up). I assumed you were a fan of the game because you sounded peeved that I didn't like those lines.

Internet meme =/= real life meme. Internet and 4chan meme "culture" has a lot of negative associations that a GI yelling "hooah" doesn't. Just Google pretty much any of these memes with Safe Search turned off and see what I mean.

I'm annoyed that the game's going to assume that anyone who's a "gamer" must be someone who hangs out at 4chan all day posting lame Photoshops with references to kid's franchises intermingled with cartoon porn. Most people who play video games still have a life outside their computer so I'd rather the game not perpetuate that stereotype, which is what I feel like it's doing by including lines like that.

 

But feel free to point out where I demanded the team remove the lines? If I was "butt hurt" I demand the mod creators do it instead of ask how to do it myself.

BTW, offended by a Pokemon reference? Seriously? I expected that some people will not like those references (more like, will despise them), but offended? Do you realize that we would have to remove like half (if not all) lines, simply because someone just might relate it to something offensive? (oh, look, Rahn reminds me of Nazis, Nazis killed Jews, which means MO is anti-Jew! ANTISEMITISM OMG)

Either way, you won't be able to remove the line without getting the ini files (and that is still easier than getting the sound files themselves). If it annoys you, the easiest way will be just to turn the voices off.

I don't recall saying "offended", rather just annoyed a little. But I think this topic's getting derailed at this point anyway.

This thread is the derailment itself. There are unit lines which I don't like, but yet I don't complain about them. (I hate most Yunru lines, but maybe because of a certain coop )

You suddenly came here, and started to post up stuff like if the whole mod is based around 4chan and when I point out you're overexaggerating, you just go and push it further. Most of your claims are actually based on a stereotype you came up with and forcefully apply to this situation, when there is no facts supporting the stereotyping. In fact, you are the racist here, towards the people of "gamers".

In my own mod, I made a voiceset of a complete troll, who only speaks in memes... and you know why, Because it's funny. The unit is trolling - not just the enemies, but also the player. And I don't see any problem with it. Rise of the Reds made the Trust Me, I'm an Engineer song into a voiceset. And everyone smiles.

They have a sense of humor - which you clearly lack.

If any such guilty pleasures I have - yes, I waste hours on TVTropes. And from the looks of it, you're exactly that kind of person, whose type is the reason of WhyCan'tFandomHasNiceThings.

Sorry to hear that you associate that line with such unpleasant things. Rest assured we by no means intended it as a slant against gamers. To us it is a harmless joke.
 

We won't be changing voice lines any time soon as we are currently focusing on very big things that have a higher priority for us right now. If it's any consolation, going back to redo unit lines isn't entirely out of the question and is something we might do in the future.

In the meantime, if you want to take a crack at changing the unit lines yourself, you might want to start at the RA2 and YR modding forums. Perhaps there you'll find an answer to how to change unit lines. Keep in mind though that trying to edit the mod's mixes might not work out due to the mix protection we have.

Why would I want to make my own mod instead of just changing a few voice samples myself? 

 

Oh and I said annoyed, not offended (you know there's a difference right?) Sounds like you're offended over anyone who doesn't find your mod's sense of humor funny - maybe you should just lock the suggestion forums then and create a "no criticism allowed" rule - or maybe you should just play the mod with your junior high friends and not release it to the public at all - then you won't have to worry about anyone daring to give anything less than a rave review about it.

If I wanted to I'd learn it myself - not ask a hypersensitive person on the internet who can't accept criticism without replying with annoying smart-assed comments. Like I said - why are you even releasing a public mod at all and requesting feedback if all you're going to do is troll anytime someone gives their feedback.
