Defcon: The Next Step

20 March 2005 - 06:26 AM

This is one of the best mods I have ever played for any game, ever - and thats not just hyperbole.

I believe that with what we have now, a few additions and some promotion and

BAM

everybody will be playing this.

So, what is needed for Defcon?

AESTHETIC
-New tread skins for the vehicles
-Some more varied architecture
-the infantry could look a bit different
-some rigging errors; shells do not exit gun barrels
-a little variety with the Ebres vehicle skins might be nice; gray-black camo perhaps

GAMEPLAY
-everything has increased range, but sight isn't, usually negating your artillery; this needs to be fixed, perhaps with a Scout or Forward Air Observer unit
-garrisoning buildings actually lessens the range of troops; this is bad, especialyl because the AI loves to garrison buildings
-another financial source is needed to sustain a game; perhaps capturable supply drops?

OTHER ADDITIONS
-third side (Egyria) or at least several third-side units for campaign purposes (note that I'd post the Egyria info I wrote up earlier but its in the staff forum... and mastermind, for some reason, took staff access from me...)
-missions/campaign (I drafted a tutorial-esque mission, but mastermind never got to it)
-more base defenses
-more and more of a variety of units (vertiplanes? tilt-rotor transports? controllable strategic bombers?)
-more Defcon!

Comrade Alexeo

P.S. Note that I created a Power Point outlining the campaign and also for propaganda puposes, which was to be converted into a video but as of yet hasn't :(

8.5 out of 10 stars!

Ebres Fortification

28 November 2004 - 07:09 AM

The Ebres Fortification should, I agree, be not as powerful as the Aerosia one. BUT I strongly suggest that the guys inside not die (or at least not so easily), because then the Ebres are too easily rushed.

Request to join staff

28 November 2004 - 05:50 AM

Hello. Since I found out about this mod a few days ago and tried it out today, I've become fascinated by the originality and overall hotness of the mod.

I'd like to help you guys make it better.

I'm asking this after you guys did all this work, of course, but hey, mods always expand right?

I have worked on both the Imperial Assault (mission designer, some modeling) and The Great War (original concept, mission designer, some modeling) mods and so I have experience with wroking on mods.

My "forte," I suppose, is mission designing. This mod's storyline offers great opportunities and I'd love to come up with campaigns/missions (although more background information might help).

I'm not the world's greatest modeler, but I'm gradually improving and could use some help with this as well.

I leave the final decision to you :p

Sides look too similar

28 November 2004 - 05:44 AM

The buildings shouldn't be the same for both sides. It doesn't look right IMHO. Since I'm going to officially ask to join the team (belatedly, yes, I know...) in the Barracks, I figure I'll point out that I can maybe see if I can't start modeling at least concepts of either side's new buildings. For more details, see my join post in the Barracks.
