Combining four video's

Okay, I usually try to find solutions to my own problems... I assure you, I've tried a few things out... And downloaded shit heaps of software...
What I'm trying to do is simply tile four video's into a single video file!
Something like this:
[VIDEO1][VIDEO2]
[VIDEO3][VIDEO4]
Now, the source files are four 640x480 .mov's, I tried turning them into .avi's and using avisynth, but I just don't understand that shit.
I've tried out numerous free video editing software, the closes I got was a video made with Jahshaka, which was the wrong resolution, had bars at the top and bottom, and mysteriously omitted my audio track... Apparently there's an easy way to do this in quicktime, but I can't figure that out...
Gah!
It should be incredibly fucking easy, but I can't seem to find a program that will do it for me...

I don't know if you want this here, but I think its importance warrants its location.
NaNoWriMo stands for (if you don't know) The National Novel Writing Month and is a very popular contest where people all over the world take part to complete a 50 000 word novel in the 30 days of November. This year is the contests tenth anniversary. last year over 100 000 people took part!
I haven't taken part before, but I am this year.
Will anyone from Revora be joining me?
