I too see the Iron Hills and Erebor Armors very different from each other!And I love how WETA and PJ portrayed Iron Hills Army using Short Brought Swords which makes them very unique compared to their Erebor kinsman who use mainly Axe and Hammer!The look  from the BoFA Movie can be used for Iron Hills Regular Army,Spearman,Swordsman and I think Crossbowmans fits best as a ranged unit while the Books looks of the 500 Elite Veterans can used as a Elite Unit or a summonable unit for Dain in some power and they could use the Mattocks weta designed and be able to toogle between Mattocks(two handed more dmg and are dmg) and Sjhor Brought Sword with Round Shield for more speed and def cuz if I remember correclty in the Book they were said to wear Mattocs and Swords and orund Shield on their backs,I think this is very good solution... As for te difference between the two realms ,well Erebor hase Helmets with Mask,Iron Hills clear Face Helmets,Erebor Dark Grey/Dark Blue Armors while Iron Hills Light Grey and lees ornaments,also their Shields differ a lot in form and color and even the Spears are different! I alwasy saw Dwarves as Heavy Armoed Units no matter what kingdom they are its a Dwarven feature of their race after all and lets not forget that Iron Hills Dwarfs and Erebor Dwarfs are kins,Lognbeards so they are practicly one people but with different leaders so I find it natural to ahve some resemblence between their cultures?

If you pause on a shot where the dwarves charge into battle, just as the elves slash at an Orc, you can see a dwarf with a mattock in the background.

I know I have seen quite a bit of them useing Mattocks,but around lets say  90%  used their Swords and thats why I suggested the elite Unit with Mattocks or the Unit which will be like the Iron Hills Dwarf from the Books!
