This is a very early preparatory warning for all hostees and staff. I will be planning a server format some time after May 19th. This means that all files will be removed. I strongly recommend you backup your data, as I will probably not be able to perform a complete backup. I also ask that you check for odd or suspicious files in your FTP. There is no reason to suspect that the server has been hacked or breached, I just prefer paranoia. As the time draws nearer, I will give more information on the exact date of format, and will be asking for IM (or e-mail) contact information for all those who want their FTP and site information back as soon as possible. If you have questions, feel free to contact me. I apologize for any disruption this will cause, but it is something that I have been planning for some time.

Well, when it comes to writing an expository essay about counter-insurgent tactics, I'm of the old school. First you tell them how you're going to kill them. Then you kill them. Then you tell them how you just killed them.

Fair enough. Is there someone who can make a backup of the davidhunter/files directory on my behalf due to my 14k modemedness?

I should be able to do that. I just don't have 20 or so gig of free HD space right now. If people want to chip in $100 or so I could get another backup drive and do it to that, and cover all the files. You'd still have to sort the permissions though.

This means that the MiasmaEntertainment.com site will be down also?
Will you be changing the FTP account passwords and so forth?

If so, send mine back ASAP. My company needs our site back up

What about databases, will you be backing those up too? I don't know if I can do a remote backup from here. If I can, then show me how!

You can use phpmyadmin to dump the database.

This maybe a dumb question but (im assuming) Revora will be down during this period to?

Yes, Revora and all sites hosted on my server will be down. It shouldn't be more than a day for the work, and it may take longer for the DNS to reach you.

Among other things, it lets me sort a few issues, and lets me make a few changes to the setup so that we have more space.

No data will (should?) be lost.

Ok, but that gives me a huge problem, as I have big files on two hostees, and that will take time... But I'll manage it somehow.

What about the hostees domains?

You don't need to do anything about cPanel. We will do that.

I get nervous when things like this happen? :) Unleashed is offline for sometime now also. I wonder what's up there?

I have never been able to find my cPanel, unless I'm just looking in the wrong places...

Most hostees don't have it, just those with their own domains.
:)
Edit: Good news and bad news. Backing up things with cPanel seems to work, and appears to shrink things enough that I might be able to handle doing a full backup. The bad news is that I'm not sure if it would work or not. I still recommend that everyone do a full backup, as I do not have the filespace to guarantee that all files will be saved and restored.
