You dress up as Gandalf and take pictures of your shadow? :crazed: :p

Gandalf? No way... my leather hat and my machete = not a wizard. I thought it looked like something a cinematic horror movie would do for their poster.

Your real face probably looks like that, but your shadow? No... :crazed:

Here's a picture of me as Oberon in A Midsummer Night's Dream. In the case of those of you who are rather creative with their definitions of Oberon, I'm the one on the platform. With the antlers, and the foliage, et cetera. The blonde in the background is Titania. Just in case you couldn't tell, we're both wearing wigs. :ninja:

This is me in front of Thomson Falls in Kenya, having climbed 80m vertical down there to the bottom, waded along, and then having climbed back up:

Quick portrait picture of me, taken by a good friend of mine. She's a very talented photographer, so check out the rest of her stuff as well.

Also, you have a very well proportioned face, Puppeteer. Thought about modeling? :p

Just found this old picture. Taken near the largest castle of the Netherlands.

Which is also right around the corner to my parental house.

That would be one of the outer towers of the castle.

Here are some full shots, for those who care about such things (I know I do)

That's pretty awesome Matias. Architecture is one of the biggest reasons I want to visit Europe.

That's a nice-looking castle. If only I understood Dutch, I might know more about it now...

Brief history lesson incoming:

Mentions of the family of Bergh (the castle is called Kasteel Huis Bergh) date back to the year 1000, though the castle was first mentioned a century later. It burned down several times, right now the oldest parts of the walls date from the early 14th century. Large parts of the building are far younger though, having been restored on various occasions through the 17th, 18th and 19th century.

Back to the year 1000... the HSQ of that place has now gone up significantly. It's a pity America is such a n00b country... we consider a hundred-year-old to be really old. I learned the error of that within an hour of stepping off the airplane in the UK this past winter. And within three hours several years previously, in Croatia, when I was much younger and less observant.

The US, and America in general, "came around" when buildings started to become more practical, cost effective and dull.. Yeah, there's some monuments and great constructions, but you won't find those awesome European castles and the likes..

Of course you've got the ancient Aztec and other "jungle-indian" pyramids and the likes, those are awesome.. but not in the US (I figure..?)

Nope. Native Americans were practical, not monumental. Hence nomadic Great Plains tribes and Midwestern tribes who lived in comfortable, warm longhouses rather than drafty, cold castles. :thumbsupsmiley: Might have had something to do with the lack of stone in the area, or at the very least the lack of tools.

Practical, but boring. A couple of weeks ago my parents went on holiday to Germany, around Dortmund somewhere, and spent five days visiting castles. Within an hour's drive of one city, there were enough castles and fortified manors to keep them entertained for five days. America just hasn't got that, which is a real shame because what America does have is incredible scenery. Put a Black Forest castle in the middle of Yosemite and you've got a truly amazing sight.
I hope I am a good enough writer that some day dwarves kill me and drink my blood for wisdom.

Athos, I was talking about the Americas in general when they came about for colonisation :thumbsupsmiley:

The native americans buildt stuff before that, and practical or monumental, whatever reason, are awesome ^_^

The only old stuff America has are burial mounds which, while impressive and probably very old, don't have quite the panache in appearance as castles. And a few trees in California, I suppose, although I hesitate to count that as part of America. :thumbsupsmiley:
