Plus, what he meant about there being more than 5 is I believe he meant more than 5 Maiar which is true, seeing as how Sauron, the Balrog, etc. were all Maiar.
But the book specificaly states there are only 5 Istari.

...The Journey doesn't end here; death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass. And then you see it. White shores...and beyond. A far green country, under a swift sunrise...
...Many folk like to know beforehand what is to be set on the table; but those who have laboured to prepare the feast like to keep their secret; for wonder makes the words of praise louder...
...Stand, Men of the West! Stand and wait! This is the hour of doom... ~ Gandalf the White, The Return of the King

I believe that Elvish is actually based on existing languages - Quenya on Welsh and Sindarin on Finnish. He's right. I just looked it up in the books: in the elven tongue when you add i at the end of a word it makes it plural, though i don't think this occurs with every word. I think Tolkien intended to create the elven language out of what he thought sounded elegant and cool to him.

I already knew this. Though, technically Istar does not mean wizard.
Yes, technically it does.

Istari means "Wise Ones"
So no, it does not mean wizard, though this is how it is translated.

ANYWAYS my FIVE cents, not two, bwehehehehe about the whole istar and istari thing is that well, in roleplay forums people are more leniant on allowing wizard characters, it's not because we are a roleplaying forum and we can change the story however we want but it seems that there can be possibilities of having other wizards rather than the two blue wiz's, one white, *fired* white and...and..righto brown.
BTW Just rememberd the most strictest rp forum allowed wizards as long as their background history made sense, they're SO strict on accurate information that they prevented me from joining it and suggested me to go read Silmarillion again when I used the word, "english" because I don't know what the language for men is called o.o
Strange point to make but Celeglin should know about thatz :3 You rped in a LOTR forum havn't you?

bluemax,
your right about the ents being made by elves, though after they were created the entwives and the ents had kids, as it says in the ROTK book (not sure if it was in the manuscript or not) and one day the entwives disapeared, so no more ents.
ents can be summoned from the spellbook, why not by radasgat?
and also there are 5 wizards, not 4, the names are saurumon, gandalf, radasgat, allantar, and pallano. allantar and pallano are the blue wizards, though they are a specific kind of wizard like the forest wizard
1. Because EA is stupid like that
2. Summoned by a hero implies that the hero has some sort of power over them (for lack of a better phrase) to bring them there, summoned from a spellbook implies they were just brought there

because he actually has no connection to the elves as well as no connection to Rohan, and the fact is that every faction has its wizard
--> Radagast to Rohan
For the elves I would have another suggestion:
Tom Bombadil: He is more linked to the elves
BUT I would say that the elves don't need another here, but Feanor, hehe
If you (meant is Celeglin) create a new herp for the elves than just an "optional one" like Gil-Galad

bombadil lives near the shire and i dont think he has any connections with the elves or anyone and doesnt fight anyway.

Tom Bombadil: He is more linked to the elves
Eep! I'm oh so very against Tom ever being in any video game unless he's in his own little realm near the Barrow Downs. It's explicitly stated that he has no power beyond the bounds of his land, and I'm not about to overstep that for a character that I dislike anyway (sorry guys, if I would flip through any part of these books, it would be through Bombadil's chapters). And about Feanor... There are maaaany other Elven heroes I'd do before I'd try that one (Thingol, Beleg, and Luthien are near the top there )
