then the question is, why are we acting differently now than before? if they were completely in command we wouldnt be having this conversation... the internet is surely a blessing for the people and a curse for the elite.

You're all fucking drama queens, the "elite" have kept America the same for this long for a reason. They're happily on top of society while the rest of us toil beneath. This happens every so often, anybody remember when Truman tried to sieze the steel industry? When Japanese-American citizens were sent to internment camps? How about good 'ol McCarthy? There will be no fascist takeover of America because it is not in the best interest of those who run our country.

Here, here...! I agree wholly with this lad.

Well if it happened before, it's alright then, because when it happened before, nobody got killed and everything was great.

Never before have you had anything so major happen as to have a fundamental right taken away from you.

In the past if you were on top, you could easily keep it that way, but now that technology has changed the world, it is no longer that simple. Now a clever teenager can make more money in a year than your entire family has for the past 5 generations combined. The elite are losing their power, what they have decided to do is not that uncommon. When power starts to slip, they do what is necessary to keep that power in their hands. And that means anything necessary.

They have been converting the future minds of our society into apathetic materialistic driven disgraces of human existence. Now all they need to do is slowly decrease our liberties, so that when the time comes where we are completely under their control to the point of serfdom, there will be nothing we can do, they will simply pump out simple luxuries and more drugs to keep us happy, and distract us with reality TV and celebrities, while they go off turning the rest of the world into slavery while they can rest hapily in utter power and wealth.

You're right, the rights were never taken away, they were just blatently ignored. It's common place in the west, we're all for civil liberties until they become inconvenient. We then suspend these liberties until they become convenient again.

Oh pffffft, the rich are still rich, they still have their influence, their power is firmly in place.

They have been converting the future minds of our society into apathetic materialistic driven disgraces of human existence. Of course! Britney Spears and K-Fed was simply a government ploy to destract us from the War in Iraq! Jennifer Anniston's boob job was to make us forget about Habeas Corpus!

You need to take a look around you and understand that society already is what you just stated. There is no converting to be done, we live as slaves to the corpratocracy that is our government.

Ugh, that is precisely my point.. Government ploy? Not exactly, pretty much every single famous person was made so by a corporation. Corporate ploy, Government ploy... there isn't much difference now adays anyway.

It's not really a ploy, it's an evolution of a corrupt system. There's no army of suits conspiring against us, it's just... naturally like that.

Social mobility is AT AN ALL TIME LOW.

The idea of the American dream IS A MISCONCEPTION.

Worryingly, the idea that social mobility is alive and well is still well-held in most people.

The American dream was never a misconception until people allowed it to be.

The only problem with liberialism, which has happened in America until the neocons came to power, is that each new generation born into such a liberal system will not know of the stuggles their parents, grandparents and even ancestors fought to get that freedom. Instead of seeing the society as a responsibility to maintain, the new generation will only see rights. They will believe they have a RIGHT to that lifestyle instead of responsibility because they have not been properly educated. The reason the "elite" kept America in such a state for so long was not because "they were at the top." It was to allow generations and especially the newer ones to become apathetic. In doing so they will get the chance they had to seize total and hegemonic control. All the apathetic generaiton will do is moan and whine, maybe stage a few protests but nothing more, because they have no idea how to fight or to combat this due to the so called "disease" that the neocons believe liberal society has become infected with. This disease is the very apathy and ignorance that they are using to seize more power.
