Ched, I have absolutely no idea regarding B4ME coding, but this method works in Warcraft World Editor.

Would it not be possible to have an integer variable, lets say x, which when a unit is created is increased by the population cost of that unit, ie. x+5. Whenever a build order is issued to a minifaction the variable's value is checked and only if it is low enough will it be carried out.

When a unit dies, the variable would then have to be lowered by the value of that unit.

The units, though, would have no "real" food cost, the cost being mentioned in the string.

This probably wouldn't work, but its an idea nonetheless.

What about:
When you build a mini-faction building, your initial Command Limit goes up? Say: you start with 200 and it goes up by 100?

Or is this only do-able for BfME2?

Also, will the Command Point cost for each battalion be the number of units in that horde? Say: a battalion of Gondor Soldiers has 5 units, so its CP is 5. But, horsemen should be 10 CP because there are also five horses in the battalion.

I think this would be better than raising the max CP, because this way you know exactly how many units you have on the field. Then again, it's just more work for the coders =(

Nah, having Gondor Soldiers with 5 command points = :). Wouldn't make sense, and balance would go out the window.

CP are more command points than population limit

I really don't do requests and my Arnor Soldier is not fit for BFME. Don't ask me for either.

i think that he mean that command points arent population limit. it doesnt say how many troops you can have more likely it says how strong army you can have. you know one Citadel guard is far more stronger then normal gondor soldier etc.

I have a question here, You know the isengard minifactions: Dunland and Moria sereve as early-game shock-troop units, well what does the Gundabad minifaction provide for Isengard?

Yeah I guess they all have relatively the same function - with moria having cave trolls - so which one you choose is about your taste.

I would have thought Moria would be a handy meat wave for Isengard, just more climby then Dunland. Weaker but with better armour, interesting idea now I think of it.

I actually would like to know what kind of units Gundabad would have. I mean, the staff I can bet are coming up with something great, to not make it a Moria clone - without trolls.

the Gundabad units are already decided, they have wolf-riders; possibly an elite cavalry group, and they also have Mountain Orcs which are probably more defensive than Moria Orcs and are almost in par with the Uruk-hai.

They also could possibly have shamans, they were hinted at in Weapons and Warfare.

The staff don't really like the idea of shamans and the like in the mod, as it's something that was mostly made up, and it's too much like BFME2.

And Uruk King, you're right. I forgot all about the wolf riders.

the idea that orcs could use magic just dosen't make much sense to me, but i think it would be cool if the mountain orcs had somesort of fire based ability, like the orcs who pursue Bilbo and the dwarves into the trees where they are rescued by the eagles in the hobit
