Mirk should be banned for not recognizing Middle English when he sees it. Old English is another matter altogether... for example, king is spelled "cynge," or at least in the translation of Beowulf I got my hands on.

Banned because no it isn't. 'King' in Old English is 'cyning', which is pronounced 'queue-ning'. And on a surprisingly related note, I'm now off down to the library to meet people from my Old English class and work on our presentation on Beowulf. Seriously. We're doing Grendel's approach, starts at line 710, I seem to recall.
