I'm feeling proud of myself - actually forced myself to go to my university's freshers' LGBTQ brunch today, and I had a good time and met some nice people. And it was only slightly awkward at the start!
Plus there was an American there who confessed to loving 'dead-pan sarcasm' (is there any other type of acceptable sarcasm?), and I knew someone there from elsewhere. Yay.

LGBTQ? What's the Q? Is it just for Queer? Isn't that really implied in at least two of the other options? Jealous of the Bodleian time, I do love that place. Their Saxon literature collection is goddamn amazing. But I guess you already knew that.

Also, carbon nanotubes: to modern sci-fi what radiation was in the 50s.

Also also, is there any other kind of sarcasm at all other than deadpan? Isn't the only other option wild over-the-top sarcastic tone which is really more just being a dick than being sarcastic?

Oh, and on a completely different note, Puppeteer: as you're now an Oxford resident, I heartily suggest you look up the Phoenix Picturehouse if you haven't already. It's a just-off-mainstream cinema that also has a bar!
I hope I am a good enough writer that some day dwarves kill me and drink my blood for wisdom.

I think it's supposed to stand in for pansexual and asexual. Maybe.

It means questionable. Umbrella term.
Anyway, I went clubbing for the first time yesterday. It was a gay night... not sure if I'll go too many times, not really my thing at all. Apparently I got hit on - I thought he was just being nice. I still don't believe it - I don't think I'm being naive.
Any other sarcasm is unacceptable. Even making the distinction with 'deadpan' sarcasm is bad enough.
Like I need any more bars :p That place looks great, thanks for the tip! There's loads of little gems round here. I joined the union today, which gets me free access to the Union Bar and the Purple Turtle, which hosts rock/metal nights. If I can find someone to go with (most people here like classical or pop/mainstream stuff  ). I missed Jordan aka. Katie Price giving a speech! We have Johnny Depp and loads of other famous people (including the presidents of Macedonia, Finland and Mongolia), alongside some great debates like no-confidence debates and 'girls can't throw'.

I have just had an hour-long class (8 of us) in which we started our Old English course. Already translating unseen sentences/some prose. Intense, but wow! Oxford <3
Also, The Dream of the Rood is a wonderful poem!

Believe me, it feels a lot less wonderful when you've slavishly created your own translation only to then discover that you've made a couple of serious mistakes that wholly altered the intended context. And there were only five of us in my class (in second year) and only two of us in third year. By the way, who are your lecturers? Any names I ought to recognise?

I can see the inflections of -e (and irregular -an) causing problems. Oh how I wish I'd done German, not French! At least it will help me to learn German, if I want to, next year.
I'm not sure how famous my lecturers are, but from a little Google research probably not.
