But those slashers have the same reach as pikes/spears, so are almost as effective, and certainly more so than swords.

I agree with Yoda on this one...

they would not be as effective as pikes because making a slashing/hacking motion with a long, heavy object is extremely difficult to do with any precision or power. adversely stabbing with a long, heavy object is much much easier to do with both precision and power because you are exerting yourself less.

There wouldn't be need for much strength when a horse is charging at you. The idiot horsemen just run into your sword at full speed.

Actually the Bill would be better used when the horsemen was standing still. I do know for a fact that the all of those weapons were effectively used against cavalry, as I said before, why do you think the peasants used them more than axes and hammers.
The Forks are long by the way, some were about 12 feet long, but they were usually 8 to 10 feet long.

Edit: I think I'll do some concept art of what I think Hobbits with mixed Bills, Scythes, Forks, and so on so you can see what I'm thinking of :)

I firmly am in favor of changing the stick to something that makes frickin' sense. I mean what moron would use a stick in battle?!

Tolkein says the Shirrifs use staffs, but that is because (as Yoda hinted at) they are policemen, not warriors.

Exactly. This is BATTLE for middle earth. You don't train policemen for war.

But still, even policemen have guns :)

Swords, clubs, and whatever weapons other than sticks would be fine.

It would be mostly axes and knives. And Farm tools.

Riot police usually only have clubs, and Tolkien describes the Shirrifs using staffs.

Why would policemen have farm tools? The unit that I'm proposing the farm tools for is the Hobbit Pitchforks, not the Hobbit "Shirrifs".

Edit: How many people have even read the Scouring of the Shire. If you haven't, do, and if you have, read it again so that we all know what were talking about :)

We are talking about the hobbit sheriffs. They are stupid. No inteligent commander would use hobbits armed with sticks. Plus only a retard of a hobbit would try to square off with a goblin with a freakin' stick.

You haven't read the Scouring of the Shire have you? My advice would be to get a copy if the Return of the King, and read the SotS. Then go talk to a somebody who knows a lot about Medieval fighting techniques and ask him about Quarerstaffs, you will learn a lot :thumbsupsmiley:

You my friend have made a big error. When playing Chess learn who your opponent is. Then same goes for debates. I encourage you to go to the evil factions page, read the Isenguard Vs. Mordor topic. Then next time before you go into a debate learn who you are talking too. As too your post above, I can easily systematically and logically dismantel your argument, but I will not afford you that honor, unless of course you show you are willing to live to a higher standard of debate and intellectual discourse. So sufficed to say your argument is complete bosh. If you so show you're striving for a higher level of respect and standard of debate then I will gladly give you the honor and pleasure of a well thought out and logical reply.

P.S. Next time you insult somebody and tell them to go read the books. Make sure you aren't talking to someone you has read all the books (Silmarilion as well) over seven times each. The title Loremaster might have been your first clue.

Yes I have. It is something try to exercise often, but I neither like being insulted or to see the quality of the debate go down. That is what angers me most; not that he insulted me, but that he failed to get proper intel and recon the situation before he committed to an attack. If it was well thought out and executed insult it would be far better. An excellently done one would have even gotten props. In every thing you do do it with intellect and excellence. That would make me happy.

I sincerely apologize for insulting you, I didn't mean any harm in what I said. You are getting a bit out of hand though, you are completely ignoring your own advice. I love Tolkien and warfare, I read each of Tokien's books about twice a year, and I practice fighting with any weapon you could imagine. I can say that I have read each of the books about ten times, so I would appreciate it if you would stop treating me like an idiot who doesn't know anything about intellect, my favorite book series (LOTR), and history.
Once again, I'm sorry if I insulted you in any way, I didn't mean it. Let's not get too angry at each other, what would professor Tolkien think if we were using him as an excuse to orally rip each to shreds, let's not get angry over pointless things that don't matter
