Scythes would actually be extremely effective when used to hamstring horses...as for bills, they seem to be very useful for catching the cloak of a passing rider and tearing him out of the saddle.

The Uruk 'swords' are actually designed to do just that.. :p

That is how they used them too, the scythe was one of the few weapons that you could still hold onto with a horse charging into it.

They were pretty clever weren't they :p

Ok why do u guys intend on putting hobbits in???

seriously, ur wasting ur time, you could be putting something more interesting in. Like the Dunharrow Army or sumthing, instead of hobbits.

Hobbits were folk who lived peacefully, they never had any army, they relied on others to come protect them.... and who are u gonna add for heros, plus the heros suck, they die in 2 troll hits.....bilbo no, frodo nah, rest no....

I really like the idea of varying the tools the hobbit pikes have. Jag, I totally agree that the only option for the other hobbits is an ax/knife and a staff. The staff for defense and blocking and the other to give kill shots. I also would like to see the rocks changed to either a sling or bow.

i would rather they be changed to a sling simply because it is more unique than to give them bows.

only issue with changing the weapons for the hobbits is what we do with their animations. they seem to be pretty specific to a staff and i dont know how we could do animations for them to switch weapons (go from defending with a staff to killing with a knife).

Add an ax/knife to the other hand. You would fight two handed. This shouldn't be two hard, but then again I haven't looked closely at the model.

Somebody'd have to do an animation for the sling. I don't think there's one in-game. But it would look better than another archer unit.

works for me.
im still not too hot on the idea of giving some of the hobbits in the current pitchfork unit scythes and bills because they would need to be used differently than what the rest of the weapons they would have need to be used.

Maybe the Hobbit Shirrifs could use a staff/axe for the first few hits, then pull out a knife once the enemy gets closer and the fighting gets tough. They should also switch to a bow, since that is a very common weapon for Hobbits in the books, I don't think any if them use slings.
The Hobbit Pitchforks have a swinging attack don't they, anyways being jabbed hard in the face (or gut if you're fighting a Hobbit) still hurts, even if it isn't bladed.

...meant that as a reply to your challenge, AA IP'er :p

As for the different weapons discussion, I concur that a new sling animation would need to be made by someone. Personally, I think it'd be better to use bows (possibly as a placeholder until this detail can be ratified).

Would the bowmen/slingers be a new unit or a replacement for the rock throw toggle?

i would think that they would work best as a replacement for the rock throw toggle because the validity of that has been in question lately.

and i am pretty sure taht the hobbit pitchforks use a stabbing animation and not a swinging one. of course i suppose i could be wrong (unlikely :p).

So they can toggle between staff/axe, bow/sling, and knife? That seems a bit much doesn't it?

What I meant is that they stab and swing. Hence why I said...

anyways being jabbed hard in the face (or gut if you're fighting a Hobbit) still hurts, even if it isn't bladed.

Here is my idea as to what the "new" Hobbit Shirrifs could look like...

Once again I used paint, but this time I edited Merry :p I didn't add bows or slings, we don't want to cover him in weapons now do we :p

I was thinking more along the lines of a knife/sling OR axe/sling toggle.
