Hi Fans and Players...

First: S.E.E. is a SKIRMISH mod ONLY! (So far!)

I have some GREAT news for you!
As (most of?) you know, and like stated above ^, S.E.E. has been a SKIRMISH mod ONLY, from the start :)
This was due to me starting this mod as a personal minimod of "Marks FullGamePLay Mod 1.04b" that was not campaign compatible. But you already know that, so I'm not gonna ramble about that again...

What you do NOT know is that SEE's Mod Ally, the mod RJ-RotWK's leader Robnkarla has stepped in and located the problem... This was posted by me in Support section just minutes ago, in reply to a Player asking about the non running Campaign mode...

It is (sorta) fixed for 4.5! I can't guarantee that the whole campaign will run though, but this will be thuroughly tested in the next Private Beta. So far BOTH campaigns DO start and I even completed the first mission and started the next for Good, and it worked so far... *hugging Rob*
PRETTY nice news ey?

;)

So what is next?
1) Make sure the whole BFME2 Campaign mode runs for both Good and Evil...
2) Eventually, (and hopefully) write a new Campaign for S.E.E... (For Beta V)

Let's all say THANK YOU to Rob! ;)

Perhaps I could help write the story for the new Campaign...

I know that sounds strange coming from Capn "completly useless"AstroSponge, but I'm not half bad when it comes to thinking up ideas.

EDIT: But then again..I was thinking about it, and I realized I've got nothing. So, if there's a campaign to be written, i've got no clue, besides trying for something like the BFME1 campaign added into the existing ones.

Whoot! If the campaign can be re-made a little...Get rid of the "do this, then wait for 10 years for the comp to recognize that you did it"

I think I'll put that banner in my sig, just because RJ has made so many awesome additions!

yay! i think rj might do a linear campaign too in the future after the nonlinear is done/almost done, so maybe that could be converted to see?

We will probably do this in cooperation yes :p

And neaturally this campaign would follow the movies, thus beeing a linear campaign with the Fellowship in focus up until they split. And then mix the scenery after that... well simply following the movies as closely as possible...

- Shire
- Bree (New map)
- Rivendell
- Moria (BFME1)
- Lórien
...and so on

Just know that this is very far away, and for the time being we should be happy about the regular BFME2 campaign starting to begin with... ;)

Well, getting the BFME2 to at least function correctly is the first step that I'm helping with so that the campaign is not broken. (1.05/1.06 in my view broke the good campaign with their inn units. I mean come one, did they really expect you to take out Mumakil with hobbits on Celduin?)

Waaaaayyyy down the line Chris and I will be working on a linear campaign for both of the mods probably after other large pieces are implemented in Beta V and future releases. At that point I should be near complete on my non-linear campaign so this would be a linear-story campaign that can be played in both mods. (There are a lot of differences between RJ-RotWK and S.E.E., but if I can write modular enough it should not too terrible to write for both of us to use if I approach it that way from the beginning.)

So yes, in the next version you will at least be able to play the good campaign. It may not be 100% fixed, but it's a start for now.

Great news all around.

That Bree map is actually pretty lame. High Elven Lord made it a little better by including an Inn where a beacon tower used to be, but other thn that it's just a boring symmetrical skirmish map that is Bree in name only. It's just some Dale-style building in a perfectly square town. It's got a river on all sides surrounded with bridges on all 4 sides. Anyway...it sucks.

Some of the first screenshots ever for BFME2 included one with the Prancing Pony, but I don't think there's even a model for it.

Anyway, a Bree map will have to built from scratch to do any justice to it.

Making it bigger and addind some more buildings

and never call steve campen's maps lame :p ever ;) :mad2:

Whoa! That's not Steve's map, it's EA's. He made one little change to it, removing a Beacon and replacing it with an Inn. I'm sure if he had ever built a Bree map, it would've been great. But he didn't... :p

Anyway, better to skip a playable Bree mission than to use that map.

I've know Steve (HEL) for two years via MEV and RTSC. He's left BFME mapping, unfortunately. m@tt from Rhovanion Alliance tried to bring him onboard, but I think Steve declined.

The main reason I still even have BFME I is because of the movie based campaign... Would be sweet if this could be copied or even improved upon.:p

Eveyone is entitled to their own opinion, you guys. I personally don't like playing player-made maps...Wxcept for the BFME1 converted maps.

Blendor - Excellent idea. I like it!

The pitfall of EA's maps is that they were all designed around an emphasis on "competitive multiplayer," meaning they have to be symmetrical and look entirely man-made. This never seems to work, though, as most players who are serious about playing online use the same two maps again and again (I think Buckland is one, but I'm not sure as I don't play online).

Case in point is Minhiriath. It has what appears to be the Barrow Downs (large area in the center) and Bombadil's house (on an elevated and inaccessible area), but it's obviously just slapped on a tournament style map. Take away the house and put a Tiberium field in the center and it could just as easily be a C&C3 map. Same goes for the Bree map...it wasn't even worthy of including in the game so they made it a Circuit City exclusive. Either way, it's Bree in name only.

Anyway, regarding the campaign: is it possible to have branching mission paths? Can secondary objectives trigger which missions follow? For example, can the "Save Boromir" objective be used to determine whether or not he later appears at Helm's Deep, Minas Tirith, etc. or not?

That's another one of those ideas, Dzhon, that was in the BFME1 campaign, and really made it worth playing in my opinion.

Yeah, it was a good idea, but I don't think they implemented it did they? Didn't he show up later whether you saved him or not? You definitely had to kill the heroes multiple times in the Evil Campaign.

I also think it'd be interesting to see what would happen if you could outright fail some missions but still have the campaign progress. For example, so you could lose Eomer's force but still play Helm's Deep (just w/o reinforcements). What if Rohan didn't make it to Minas Tirith? What if the Corsairs of Umbar did? Or, if the Forces of Light are on a roll, what if Boromir brings reinforcements to Faramir at Osgiliath and crushes Gothmog's Morgul force? Would Boromir attempt to march on Minas Morgul itself?

I don't mean to get carried away, but the campaign could be an awesome feature if the engine allows this sort of thing.
