That is soooooo awesome! Just so we're clear, it's going to be a map used for the campaign, correct? Because I saw how little of space the opposition side had, and, they don't have much to work with. So, they'll haveto spawn out of the sides of the map like in the original campaign, only, much closer.

well thus far Im just getting the city remade. I have no clue how to do scripts, but since im using the ingame map as the basis it will still work for wotr and skirmish. believe it or not there is plenty of room outside the city to build a base, but I would definately recommend that for the campaign use waves of attackers instead of them building and camping outside the city.

Nice! Did you use S.E.E. Grond as a scale reference?

well I tried to, I wasnt sure what it was scaled to exactly. but I know the mumak is 1.75 last I heard, so I used it and grond as points of reference, although the city cant get much bigger, without being so massive itd be impossible to defend.

heres a shot of archers on the wall by the main gate

and more archers defending the second level gate

The Siege Tower will need some serious rescaling as well, hehe.
And we'll need much longer ladders for Isengard.

^But rescaling those would mean having to rescale the normal walls as well? And other faction's walls then?

Nonono, "normal" base walls have nothing to do with MInas Tirith, and that's the point, isn't it? :)
The point of this venture should be on thing, and one thing olny:

- To make Minas Tirith as close to the movie version as possible, right? This means:

1) Make the city BIGGER! And with it, the walls and gates... so it all matches the Grond, Siege Towers, units and all...

What I would suggest is also to expand the borders of the map to it's maximum. Meaning, "copying" it into a map the size of an 8 payer map (or even bigger maybe, if possible? I have no idea how to do this, but it should be possible. With this, we could also move Osgiliath into the same map. Lord Istari has done something like this for Age of Men...

Now, as long as you keep the layout/design of the EA version, we should be pretty close in terms of placement of details and structures I guess, of the city itself. I'm no expert on how it looks, but I find the retail version of MT pretty close to the movies, only WAY smaller :p

Anyway: awesome initiative NJM! :p

looks great, but one thing:
The screens were from the inner city, right? I thought the textures of the ground were a bit different in the movies :p
That's the one point I don't like. (It is THE big city of the men in the third age. And there is just normal sand? No stones etc.?)
You said you don't know how to script.
I would be honoured if I can help a bit with scripting as soon as the map has finished :p

So are you going to make the main gate walkable? I remember in BFME 1 there was a version of the towers by the side of the game with stairs in the art files.

Meh, an accurate Minas Tirith is impossible through just mapping I'm afraid.

Not really. Download this to get a good idea on what the movie city is like. (Note: It's still very much a WIP...)

Though personally if they'd used one of their original models lurking in the art files, or the full 7 level walkable one they always showed in the trailers... I'd be happy.

ok this is really taking off, let me SEE If I can get some things straight.

I have rescaled the map to the maximum size possible.

I havent even begun to texture the ground my main concern has been to scale up the walls and place them. its kinda like a puzzle do the outside first then work the inside. im just trying to give people an idea of the size of the city. and what ive done so far. most the work ive done has been best guess and check so its slow going, I give it a minimum couple hours a night.

I have looked online for as many decent pics of the bigature used for the movie I could find, and I have downloaded shots from the minas Tirith project as well as having the full walkable render.

if you someone can tell me what to scale the grond to as im using the retail map editor Ill check to see if the main gate is large enough.

Oh yeah the trebuchets will need a rework, when the buildable ones are rescaled "Tree Icon" the trebuchet itself stays the same size while the turret is the correct size. But the trebuchet still sits on the original size turret, model geometry issue.

Uhm, I've seen ONE model in the Art files that is a solid 1 object only... is that the one you refer to? 7 walkable levels? That can't be this one?

Now THIS is a modder in my taste... Motivated and extremely thorough! :crazed: You should join SEE Team as a Map Editor!

Here's Grond's size in SEE:

Scale = 2.0

Let's start with a city, and finish that, before we embark on the rest of the world :shiftee:

But if this goes well... sure - I'd love to se a much improved Helm's Deep as a second Fortress Map project. After that, I think Edoras perhaps... or Isengard... But like I said, we'll see how this one goes first

Well naz I would be honored to map for you guys, or atleast provide what I can to the mapping aspect of it, . After all its you and the SEE mod team that inspired me to take the average minas tirith map and do what Ive always wanted with it. and now a screen shot

After 3 hours of tinkering... I present the courtyard within the main gate... sorta, minus buildings

and yes the ground is supposed to be dirt I verified it by popping in my dvd
