you know elvenfury, you're such an asshole ..
QFT... but lets not get into that now.
Elvenfury, where the hell do you get the idea that Dwarves are... "beefy"
If the portray any Dwarf in this movie as fat/purely for comic relief (other than bombur of course) I will be cross. Therein lies my main concern. Gimli was fairly well destroyed character-wise in the films. In this case, the Dwarves have to be taken seriously or the whole thing falls on it's head. Then there's the problem that there's 13 of them. Thats quite a few characters. It's going to be difficult not to have some of them fade into the background for most of the film.

I really don't do requests and my Arnor Soldier is not fit for BFME. Don't ask me for either.

Of course of the less vocal can fade into the background. But I'd give them the occasional line so they're not just extras.
Going by the actual deeds in the story..
Bifur: gave the trolls quite a fight before getting sacked and helped trying to rescue Bilbo. Him and Bombur are almost killed by Smaug at the bottom of the cliff
Bofur: Did bugger all
Bombur: Plenty, is fat, plenty of comic relief related to him. He also falls into the enchanted river and is almost killed at the bottom of the cliff when Smaug comes forth. Is on guard when Bilbo goes over the wall.
Dori: Described as being the strongest. Carries Bilbo, looses him. Climbs back down tree during warg attack to rescue him. Has Bilbo hang from his legs when rescued by eagles
Dwalin: Lent Bilbo a hood and cloak. Shot at the squirrel. Is quite vocal I seem to recall
Gloin: Aside from his obvious claim to fame, I can't actually remember him doing anything of note within the book. Except trying to light fires.
Oin: Tries to light a fire, argues with Gloin... once again, not much.
Nori: Bugger all.
Ori: Bugger all of note. Writes the book of Mazarbul later.
So yeah... if they stuck to that, with the more quiet members getting a line occasionally so they're not pure background figures... would work.

Bard?:

Thranduil?:

Beorn?:

The guy who plays Biblo is really old btw, which is why their looking for an alternative.
And Bowie looks a bit like our Thranduil so I don't have a problem with that

Actually I rather like the idea of Bowie as Thranduil. He's brilliant in labyrinth. He's got pretty elven eyes natrually. You're probably looking at pics in his old wearing makeup 80s sex symbol days. Although now at ... must be about 60 now he's loosing his Elven looks. But lets see if we can find a decent picture...

Loose the anime haircut and the king of the goblins eye makeup.... and yes... a place for a Rock n' Roll legend..
*beats Elvenfury some more because it's such an enjoyable experience*
Jason Isaacs as Smaug? Yesssssss. If they go with a generic "Deep scary dragon voice" I'll be disapointed.
Brian Cox or Ben Kingsley.... I really like Ben Kingsley, but I think he's a bit too short and skinny to be Thorin... and would anyone recognise him with lots of hair
Haven't heard of any of the fellows for Bard... it's a fairly generic role anyway.
Alfred Molina for Beorn? Hrmmm Not quite sure on that one.
As for Ian Holm as Bilbo.. thats possibly the trickiest bit.
And Elvenfury, I'd rather have a Hobbit film than a film based on a bland and uninspiring FPS.
