I'm adding installation issues here and I'm going to try to move everything to this topic.

To install the mod:

1) Open the RJ_RotWK.rar file
2) Extract the contents of the file to your c: drive. (If you are using winRar, just drag the RJ_RotWK folder to you c: drive)
3) In the contents of your C: drive directory you will see a RJ_RotWK shortcut, or you can also find it in the .rar file. Move that wherever you would like to store it
4) Double-click the shortcut and the mod will run

A checklist for trouble-shooting:

- Verify that the folder RJ_RotWK is in your C: directory. (Or you can move it wherever you want, but you'll need to change the path in the shortcut. In the C:\RJ_RotWK you will see a lot of .const files, asset.dat, and some folders - art, bases, data, etc)
- Verify that you are using the 2.01 patch
- Verify that the shortcut has the correct path for where you installed the game. By default it will assume that you installed it here - "C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Lord of the Rings, The Rise of the Witch-king"

The shortcut just takes me into the normal RotWK game rather than the mod

Yes, a big thing to remember is that the shortcut is case-sensitive. Check the target and make sure that the string in quotes ("C:\_RJ_RotWK") matches your folder exactly. Also, when you extracted from winrar somtimes it will put it in another RJ_RotWK folder so you get C:\RJ_RotWK\RJ_RotWK.

So to verify, if you go to "C:\RJ_RotWK" you should see:

art [folder]
bases [folder]
data [folder]
libraries [folder]
maps [folder]
then a bunch of .const files and an asset.dat file.

You know that if you use the shortcut it's pointing to the game and not the mod so just verify the mod is in the correct, case-sensitive place.

Robert J.

(I decided on RJ_RotWK mainly because I use the -mod and due to hidden files app data can be hard to get to for some.)

Maybe I'm crazy... I have followed your directions exactly, and I continue to be taken to the basic un-modded game. Funny thing, the previous version of RJ worked fine for me with the shortcut and everything. I looked for duplicates, but found none. Not sure what else to do.
Lord of the Rings? Of course. But am I the only Shannara fan?

Glad to see you here!

A couple of items for trouble-shooting:

Do you have any other mods/patches installed for BFME2 or RotWK? (_.big files that are not official or ini.big that are modified)
Do you have the 1.01 patch?
What does the error message say?

I've gotten those before too, but I solved it. I could help for some people. You might also want to take out your application data for ROTWK. That's what I did and I just deleted the one it made after I loaded it in and put my old one back in. Don't know if that helps but w/e.

This is an example of mine.
Target-"I:\Electronic Arts\ROTWK\lotrbfme2ep1.exe" -mod C:\RJ_RotWK"
Start In-"I:\Electronic Arts\ROTWK"
You need the target to go to your exe and the mod to the place it is. I tried putting the folder in another place but it didn't work so I put it back in the C:\ drive.
I can help with making the target/start in box for you guys if you didn't install to default place.

1) Have you patched Rise of the Witch-King?
2) You have installed RotWK on your C drive, right? If so, the path should be ''(C:\Program\Electronic Arts\The Lord of the Rings, The Rise of the Witch-king\lotrbfme2ep1.exe'' -mod C:\RJ_RotWK

Or, if you have dragged the mod folder from the .rar file you downloaded to your C drive, just use the shortcut that's packed with it. If so, change 'Program Files' in the shortcut to 'Program'. It looks like that is causing the problem.

1) I have patched it
2) The path didnt work :(

And i have changed it to program.

I have this working before but then i uninstallit(spell), and i uninstall the witch king and the battle for middle eart 2.
And now i change path from right click on the shortcut of rj_rotwk and then, right down at the bottom. And then i switch target.
I can't choose right click then "drive as.." (think its spell so, i from sweden and here it's like "kör som")

Wait, you mentioned you installed the game in C:\Program\blablabla instead of C:\Program Files?

How extract the file if you don't have winRar.

Try doing this. Delete the RJ folder on you computer. Now extract it into your C: Drive (not Program Files/Electronic Arts/The Lord of the Rings, The Rise of the Witch King, not Application Data/My Files), and use the default shortcut (meaning don't change the target or Start In)(if you deleted the Winrar archive after installing it then download it again).

Your Traget should look like this:
"C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Lord of the Rings, The Rise of the Witch-king\lotrbfme2ep1.exe" -mod "C:\RJ_RotWK"

And your start in should look like this:
"C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Lord of the Rings, The Rise of the Witch-king"

If this doesn't work, are you using a 64-bit operating system? If so you have to change "Program Files" to "Program Files (x86)".

Hope some of this helps .
