I do agree that spears are better as a melee weapon for Mirkwood, though. Wasn't there a type of spear called a glave, which had a blade better suited to slashing? Maybe that would be something to go with.

From what I know, I'd rather keep most units where they are but change strengths/weaknesses of the units themselves based on faction.
Rivendell, having the culture most similar to men, would possibly have the greatest numbers of troops per battallion and stronger buildings but also the highest prices. They would have strong cavalry and one or two decent infantry units.
Lorien would have, as has already been said, more of a "healthy balance". Heavy emphasis on archers and swordsmen.
Mirkwood would have, perhaps, the weakest buildings but the strongest troops for value, with excellent archers and elite swordsmen/spearmen.
I don't know what Rob plans to do with the Ring system but since it doesn't seem scheduled for 1.06 (I might be wrong) I'd put Frodo with the Elves until it is, while keeping Bilbo with the Dwarves.

From playing the beta myself and reading other topics, each subfaction has all the units to stand alone-but each has its main strengths and it's weaknesses. I doubt Rivendell had no archers at all, but they would have primarily focused on using swordsmen and cavalry. This is shown in the beta with weak archers and strong swordsmen. The last thing anyone would want is to use Lorien and find that your enemy is cavalry rushing and you have nothing to combat them with.

First of all i like to say i really like the efforts you guys are putting into this game.
I played the mod lots of times in LAN but i still have a question...
Would it theoretically be possible to make a mod where you can play war of the ring with more than two non-cpu players ?
Greetings and sorry for my bad english, english isn't my primary language
