Out of toilet paper? Ouch, glad that's been resolved. Shit could've gone down I'll tell ya!

Edit: I saw Brüno tonight. I will never un-see it...

My friend's sister's boyfriend was not able to donate blood on yesterday because he is bisexual. Apparently if you have had sexual contact with another man, your sample is more likely to be contaminated with HIV, even though they screen for it.

It's the same over here, Yoda. It doesn't make any sense - do they not test the blood first?

I thought they always tested the blood, just in case?
It has been reported that some victims of rape, during the act, would retreat into a fantasy world from which they could not WAKE UP. In this catatonic state, the victim lived in a world just like their normal one, except they weren't being raped. The only way that they realized they needed to WAKE UP was a note they found in their fantasy world. It would tell them about their condition, and tell them to WAKE UP. Even then, it would often take months until they were ready to discard their fantasy world and PLEASE WAKE UP

Guys, didn't you know? If you give somebody a gay man's blood it'll turn them gay! It's like with vampires. That's the real reason they won't take your blood if you're gay, black or a woman. :thumbsupsmiley:
I hope I am a good enough writer that some day dwarves kill me and drink my blood for wisdom.

They do, but apparently one in about two million samples infected with HIV will test negative for it anyway.

I've been thinking about that, Yoda, and that may be valid. How much would it suck to be that one guy that gets HIV from a blood transfusion?
Assuming of course it is true.

Might as well ban the whole blood transfusion procedure then.

But then you'd still need the white bloodcells.

Even if you get it from a blood transfusion, it can be cured within the first 3-5 days after infection. After that though, you're basically f@#$ed.

Yeah, but elven, a one pint donation can save up to three lives. Most medical facilities have a rather hard time keeping up with the demands on blood, and remember that for that one person to get infected two million HIV infected homosexuals would have to donate.

A few quick googled statistics: In 2001 64% (though another site gives me 55%, we'll go with the higher statistic for the sake of your side of the argument) of AIDS victims were men who had sex with men. As of 2005 there are estimated 1,200,000 people with HIV in the US. That's 768,000 gay people with the disease. 4% of exit polls had voters identifying as gay, lesbian, or bisexual. 300,000,000 people live in the US. We'll say 3% of the population has had gay sex with a man, though that number is artificially high because most studies show that there are more lesbians than gays, and gays are also more likely to turn up to vote, as the issues are rather relevant to them. Still, that's probably close to 9,000,000 gays.

Every single gay person in the US would have to donate over 2 and a half times (on average of course) to statistically come up with one contaminated sample. That's twenty-two and half million blood donations, at the cost of one bad sample.

Of course, the actual ratio of good samples to bad would be much higher than that. My numbers assume that every gay person that is HIV+ doesn't know that he is. If he knows, he's obviously not going to donate. I have no idea how many people HIV+ know that they are, but I'd guess it's at least half.

So yeah. 50,000,000 pints of good blood to save lives. 1 pint of HIV+ blood.

(I hope my math is right by the way, I'm kind tired so I might have done something stupid :p)

Something in or around my bed is causing me Allergic reactions.
Which came as a surprise to me since until now I've had no allergies.
Last night I broke out in hives and this morning I woke with half of bottom lip swollen.

Allergies suck.

Now I have to work out what i'm allergic to before bed.

Break dancing into the hearts of millions
