FUCK MY LIFE. Just deleted the whole English essay I've been doing all night, it's for tomorrow

If it's only a night's worth, how hard can it really be to replicate?
I on the other hand, have a 3000 word essay due midday Tuesday, and I know very little about Anglo-Saxon migration theory. I have loads of disparate ideas but not much primary evidence and I'm still a little wary of the whole grand narrative. And I haven't written an essay in four months, and a good essay in about a year. Oh dear...

You over-estimate my motivation :p A night's work will take another night, but I was find excuses for that night to be as far away as possible :p

Anglo-Saxon migration theory? Sounds interesting. I never really went into that side of things. I'd be interested to read that essay if you feel like sharing.

Neth: what did you do to your essay? Was it just clumsiness or did you have a massive red-mist blackout and devour your hard drive in one insane and doubtless painful moment?

Either way, I fail to see how venting solves the problem.

But on solving the issue, there way ways of retrieving 'pertinently' deleted files, especially if it was off a jump-drive. An old Native American friend of mine deleted his report on birds recently and I found tech online capable of producing all that he had ever deleted from his jump-drive. Some files are corrupt after the recovery, and unfortunately his was one of them. It took me some time to fix it, but it is possible to revive files from beyond the grave... if you are interested, I could help in the matter...

I got a 67, so happy :xcahik_:
You can have a look if you want, it's not particularly inspiring (it's quite formulaic in construction, I'm not going to add flair/style just yet).
I have another 3000-word essay on Anglo-Saxon Conversion/Christianisation. Strangely I quite like it...

Dude, your course sounds awesome. I should totally have tried harder at school and gone to Oxford. Ah well. I did know quite a lot about the Christianisation of Britain, but the work I did on that was nearly two years ago now and it's since been overwritten by the titanic mass of Beowulfiana I needed for my dissertation. :p When I have a moment I'm'a get all up in my notes, see what I remember accurately or otherwise.

Shame I don't know Latin, unlike some of the public school students here :p Ah well, Bede in translation then.
Although I have been spending the entire day in the RadCam getting my head round all the different missionaries, variations of Christianity etc.
My Old English tutorials and lectures start next week. Apparently it'll only take a term to be able to translate unseen passages well. In the exam this year I either get to do a commentary or a translation...

In my third year exam I had to do translations of the same text in different dialects with a commentary on why it was different. That was hellish, in a really cool kind of way.

Are you looking into the saints as well? There are some brilliant saints in Anglo-Saxon literature. There was one guy, whose name I forget, who got executed by Vikings and then a wolf guarded his head until it could be reunited with his body and he could be brought back to life. All of which apparently happened. Early Christianity had much more flair for the dramatic than its modern descendants.

Not yet  So far basically just Augustine and some other missionaries whom I care nothing for... but my essay is why Christianization is more pertinent for historians than Conversion. As a Heng student, I plan to rip the nuances out of that question. My tutor recommended me an article, saying now is your only opportunity to talk about vampires and zombies in an essay and still get a good mark. I *must* find that article.

So I had a rather traumatic night tonight. Heading back from a DotA LAN party to get pizza coupons so we can continue in style, and this guy from off-campus bursts through the door behind me and starts babbling about how I've got to "hide him". Turns out, he thought that there was a gunman in a car after him, and he had been running for at least five or six blocks before he reached campus. Of course, being a nice guy (and having assured myself that he was unarmed and under surveillance by two other dorm-mates), I let him stay in the building and called up campus safety. Campus safety called the police. When the police arrived they hijacked my room for 30 minutes or so to talk to this guy (thank goodness I had lent out my prop sword, or there would have been awkwardness...) and then they leave.

On the bright side, I then went to a theater party where I was hit on by three different attractive sophomore girls, one of whom was in a cat costume. So I think the night still balances out on the high side.

A student at my college was recently struck and killed by a train. He lived two doors down from me in our dorm. ...There's not really much else to say.

I'm curious... how does one get stuck by an object as predictable as a train? I hear it happening all the time, but I just can't imagine how such a loud force with a very visible course can pose a threat to any civilized individual.

There's also the part where trains, at least in this country, are almost always in fenced-off corridors with crossings at various intervals and bridges at plenty more.

But still, it's a bit shit. A friend of mine had a guy overdose in her living room a few months ago. She just came downstairs for breakfast and found a dead dude on her sofa. Bad way to start the day.

Regarding the train, Pasidon, aside from being drunk, there's also the suicide by train.

Imagine being a train driver ( I think it is?), seeing a guy walk on to the tracks, and knowing that you are not going to have time to stop.

Done

Now, I don't want to go to prison, so someone kill me already?

On another note; I have to finish an essay by next tuesday, and I've yet to start. And I get my new computer tomorrow. And LotR:WitN and Skyrim comes out this week (that I care about). I am truly fucked, as I'm horrible with everything school-related :p

But you have to get Skyrim. Drop out of school if you have too... Friday isn't to be tampered with by the petty issues of mortal men.
