No. I think yer just in denial that anything is possible and the best thing we all got going is our creative brains. Anything is possible in 40,000 AD, bro. You have to think beyond the constraints of technology and understand sometimes some old methods do come back. Might I also remind you that a bow is SILENT so infiltration can certainly be maintained whereas even with suppression bolters they still make a slight sound. Firing an arrow makes almost none especially from a hi-tech bow system 40,000years from now.

but the point being that unless ur bow fires rocket propelled arrows its not going to pierce power armour, and explosive shells arent going to be silent
look at the technology in 40k fluff for ideas on how advanced they are

HTF can they not be silent? Explosive bows DON'T HAVE TO MAKE A SOUND WHEN THEY ARE FIRED. Sure they'll make a sound when they hit the target so what? Nature of the beast but bows have a long range so they are projected from a distance. You can remain stealthed and fire an explosive-tipped arrow since the firing mechanism is the silently-flying bow anyway regardless of the munitions installed on it.

They have to make sound when shot because the sounds are already done.

They have to make a sound regardless anyway but bow tech, much like muzzle suppression, can also come aloonnng way in thousands of years also.

Go 40,000years and find out.. thats the whole frick'n point of this discussion!!

Alot can happen to HUMAN military tech even in a couple years. Imagine x40,000 that? Then add the influence of xenos culture out among the stars? Maybe for pete's sake they found a species who perfected the bow beyond all cultures everywhere and then they just adopted it? Anything can be done differently when highly-intelligent and adaptive cultures/species/civilizations do it their own way. Lets NOT be minimalistic please. The human approach to things is not even a speck of c*ck sh*t in the vastness of the intelligent universe.

Anyway, Meph can do as he pleases. I trust he and the team will make a good choice.

:p

At risk of opening up an emperor's sized can of promethium-based whoop-ass...

I have been watching this team for quite awhile, and since I really don't have any skills, I've kept quiet. However comma...

I love SW... they're the only chapter I'd ever play, buy, build or paint... but what I've really wanted since the first DoW game is a playable SW mod. Something that looked and felt like Space Wolves, not some recolored Blood Angels BS... To that end, and I know I'm only speaking for ME, I don't understand the preoccupation with canon. Bows, advanced-tech bows, quivers' capacity... Come on, dudes! If Misters King and Lightner can make stuff up as they go, why would a mod be held to some "arbitrary" standard of what's realistic and what isn't?

BTW... in the 41st century, what exactly is "realistic"? And who cares what the other chapters think! We're WOLVES DAMMIT!!! SONS OF RUSS!!!!!

IMHO, kudos, mega-support and <<cue the Wayne's World music>> "We're Not Worthy" chants to the WL team. Although I don't think I have any skills to offer, I humbly believe that there are dozens of us (maybe more, I suppose ;) - lol ) waiting for this kick-ass team to finish their kick-ass mod...

I just wanna have fun and play a cool Space Wolves mod with Long Fangs, and Grey Hunters, and Bloodclaws, and Wolf Priests, and and the awesome Bjorn-dude, and...

Thanks, and please spare the promethium...
:good:
But why is all the rum gone?

Well said Schleeb! Hazzah for creativity. I hope to have textured the Wolf Scout soon (ish) and then we can all judge just how cool the composite bow looks.

Now Schleeb - you've made a terrible mistake... You've posted support for the Mod - and you know what that means? A visit from the Wolf Priest.

The team is growing nicely, and the addition of a talented animator has been a MAJOR morale boost. However, there is definitely room for more. I ask only - would you be willing to learn something to help out the mod? I also had very little in the way of skill so to speak, some experience of painting TT models, but no knowledge of 3D Max or 3D modelling whatsoever. But it didn't take long to produce the models you see here. So it really is possible, and we could really use an Object Editor (the one who controls what the model does) or an FX editor (the one who makes all those lovely spells work!). If you are up for it - let me know. More hands mean this epic project will find its way to your sweaty paws a whole lot faster.

last bow related comment; we are the emperors chosen we do not use xeno technology or anything based on it, thats just heresy. remember what happens to people who use xeno technology?

That was a generalization, bro. Anyway, all cultures everywhere adopt technologies from others to suit their advantage EVEN THOUGH they may never admit to it OR know about it (purposefully lost in time). Civilizations are NOT islands unto themselves. On the contrary, contamination is part of the natural progression of things. Ex. over a period of time, someone may have added some refinements to the bow when they noticed some other culture's better adoption of its firing mechanism and, thus, logically, felt this was a severe advantage and copied it without admitting to it. Happens throughout history.

If I have time away from my important DoW1 modding duties I might look it up. Right now its quite low on my priority list.

ok im cutting straight to the point. im new on this and im not sure how far along this mod is because i had a quick look and its an amazing idea i love space wolves and would offer to help if i had the slightest clue how to. so how far along is this?

Welcome Goosey, take a gander at the progress tracker to see how far along we are! Hard to convey how far along if you're not familiar with the process. However, suffice to say models are now being painted, coding is well under way. Still a long long way to go though - animating and synkills follow after painting. It's all a great deal of work. Don't expect anything playable in 2009 (well, maybe an Alpha with a lot of placeholders, maybe). 2010 will be the year of the wolf.

The amazing thing is I was standing where you are about 4 monthss ago. So if you're willing to learn - you CAN help, and the more hands we have, the faster this can get done.

Now, we could really use a FX editor. How about having a look at some of the tutorials on relicforums and learning how to do that? I'm told it's fairly easy. Do you have any artistic abilities?

first of all sorry for this reply coming so late. Im not especcially artistic but i am not bad and desperate to help so i will take a look at these tutorials and see what i can do.

Land Speeder Skuld in post 1. An idea I had been playing with for a while based on the new Land Speeder Storm and my desire to give the SW a distinctive vehicle - which had to evoke their Fenrisian/ viking origins. Also makes Ragnar's branch more attractive, as it has far fewer vehicles than Grimnar's. In showcase. It is unarmed, a Tier 1 transport option which can only carry blood claws. Hopefully we will be able to put BC models on it in the same way as the dark eldar raider.

By the way, is Land Speeder Skuld entirely fanfict?

If so, i have an IDEA! (again)

You might or might not know Capitol Imperialis, super heavy transport vechile of Space Marines. And arent Space Wolves huge mean steroid monsters? It would fit them pritty well.
With some pelts, fangs skulls + stuff (it is pritty plain) it would look wolfy and cool (maybe not longaboatish, but still pritty feral). And dont you like lil bit o artistic freedom.

http://mustangsallin...images/cd12.jpg (ignore the imperial guard markings, other people like artistic freedom too)

Skuld isnt bad, it just looks like it needs bit improvement.

But hey, tell me what you think about Capitol

Ah no. Capitol Imperialios is purely Imperial and, like, Steel Legions, is afforded more the Super Heavy Machines look which Space Wolves is NOT about. Hell.. the Capitol is like 2-3 city blocks in size as it carries a few Lemans as a mobile battle carrier. That isn't at all "Wolfy" -- its more Imperial which are known for insanely large vehicles.
