Here's my new modification for Battle for Middle Earth II with the latest patch 1.06.

I write this now since there's enough stuff in the mod and it's nearing a first beta release.

My mod isn't themed around anything yet, I'm still figuring out the process of modding again, but it's coming back quickly which is good, I've done a few things here and there, but I've outlined 3 steps I'm going to make 1 and a time, so I don't die the mod out with making myself put too much to ask for in which I can't handle.

1: New units, powers for a couple of heroes, some reskins, some maps from ROTWK (Nanduhirion, Blue Mountain, Tutorial Map, Ettenmoors, and other ROTWK maps when I can get my hands on them (when I find my disc)

2: This will be the second BETA which will fix the bugs from above (I hope there isn't any, right now there isn't), and also will balance things out which EA missed on (I will need help identifying the overpowered, underpowered units,
structures and powers)

3: I'm hoping to split Rohan or Arnor from the Men faction, it's getting quite clustered in there, and Rohan looks like the best thing to split up. Maybe also a Rhun faction. I'm also looking to make the skins higher resolution on a few units (here's the Bias since there's a couple of units I want reskinned from the Elves since I play as them), probably more Units, anything that is too extensive. Also have a new main menu shell map of somewhere like Lothlorien.

Shortly I'll be looking for a couple of beta testers to help me find some bugs/problems in online LAN Games (BFME2 shut down their servers correct?) But don't expect too much WOW, it's a simpe mod, nothing like RJ-ROTWK or Peloponnesian Wars, it's strange to think that all I wanted to do is add Noldor Warriors in the game and then got carried away and started adding extra stuff in lol.

I actually think this is one of the new BFME2 mods around? There's not too many brand new ones around, I could be wrong though, so sorry for my ignorance if that is the case.

I'm a laidback modder, I'm not too rushy rushy (sometimes I am), I like things to perfection without any noticeable bugs, I don't expect this mod to die unfinished and if it does, don't be surprised in 5 years if I come back and re-continue it.

Fortunately I found some of the stuff on the3rdage.net like Easterling Warriors ect that I wanted to put in the mod, hopefully I find a few more people on the way. The screenshots have been taken from my moddb page which is in my signature.

New Powers for Legolas (Toggle Knife) and Haldir has a new spell at level 8, he can summon 2 hordes of Upgraded Galadhrim Warriors.

Credits too:

Check my other annoying help threads, numerous amount of people helped me get through some parts that I couldn't fix on my own.

Araval, thedeadplayer, xxxMr. Xxxx and Goldo for their models, skins and modified EA models.

Can someone move this topic to showcase? i believe it belongs there. Also nice starter mod i would however like to say that you may not want to try and split the factions so soon young one. A lot of mods add a faction and never even finish it. Sure some mods have LOADS of a faction done but there is always things to check on. Good job so far though. Keep up the good work! If you need any help P.M me some time i am always willing to help.

the showcase thing yeah, I didn't know if this would go in showcase or not, I just get the feeling showcase might be trying to show off and that's not what I'm trying to do. I have been thinking about the faction split and how much it takes, with the AI building, maps ect, it's a very tedious process for someone like me, so that won't come for awhile and maybe not at all :p. Sure thing you've already helped me enough with the coding (grateful thanks) and also the assetbuilder which was huge which was one of the main reasons I could expand :).

Also will post my updates here, so people other than moddb can see this.

Splitting Rohan won't be too hard ;)
Considering all of the models and skins are still in BFME2 under OBSOLETE or RU :p
What I would consider if I was you, is read every single tutorial for coding, then do something of each tutorial for your mod or for practice.
Then do the same for skinning (it will not look as good as the author's but a good start).
Same for modelling and mapping, do this in any order.
Then play around a bit with different things, practice loads.
Then when you're feel a lot more ready for a mod, you can start and feel the huge difference in the fun you have and how you do it.
I did this and it worked pretty well :)

P.S. Another thing I did, was join another mod (SaF) and that gave me sh*t loads of experience :p
So just try a bit of my advice to you and you won't be sorry with the results ;)

Sounds like you've got your feet planted well on the ground. Great to hear.

If you do plan to go about making Rohan and Gondor separate, I would suggest you remove the Rohan stuff from Men of the West first. Then add units\heroes to MotW to compensate for the removal if neccesary, rename the faction to Gondor, and then start on Rohan. While it's easy to get the basic work done for a new faction, there is pretty much work involved with completing the faction. A complete spellbook, upgrades, units, heroes, abilities... But it's a nice learning curve, not very complicated to get into. You'll soon enough want to add Rhûn aswell, but don't rush to that decision. That's where you die the mod out :p Keep it minimal while you're still learning.

If you however want to learn much about modeling and texturing aswell, and try something new, I would suggest you scratch the Rohan idea (the Elves of BFME1... Everyone wants to make their own :p ) and make a new faction that hasn't been made before, or almost never. Dale perhaps, or Dunlendings? Umbar itself, Khand..? Rhûn and Harad are possible, but they have also been done a few times. By doing this, you'll have to model units and buildings yourself (or editing EA's to suit your needs) and doing the textures (don't be afraid to use pictures). Yes, your first buildings will likely look like crap, but when time comes you'll look back at the buildings and think "Oh man, I've gotta redo them." You learn, you improve, you thrive for perfection. Even one man can do it, but take your time, it's an ambitious project.
Just a thought. I'm tired of all the Rohan mods there is, and Arnor mods :p

Good luck at any rate!

I would say doing Umbar is a great idea and Lauri is very right,
But alas, it all depends on the best way you can pick up information and knowledge.
Example, you might prefer Lauri's idea to mine or visa versus.
Or perhaps you want to learn your own way, but whatever works best for you, is what matters :p

Thanks guys with the support... Dale seems very appealing, there's a few dale stuff in the game and on the 3rdage.net for downloads which would help, maybe a morgul faction? right now don't think i'll be thinking about splitting a faction yet :p

@bofur, i'll message you when it's ready, I have no idea how to get this lan thing going, the hamachi server sounds like it works so we could use that?

@marsbar-
i have hamachi, so great
And try to go for something really unique, that few have tried, such as dale or khand or even wainriders

And Unknown and Lauri-
umbar has been done, but not released, and to a great standard, tho it still needs a few heros and other stuff.
It was done by elrond99 in AOTF, and he gave me this, so im trying on and off to get a new version released, but progress is very slow, as im no coder, and learning the basics, and also have a terrible asset problem.

THanks Ridder....

my next question is the main menu... Dre@mer did this http://www.moddb.com...w-menu#imagebox

which is fantastic, that's a really nice main menu, is there anychance sombody could mkae a lothlorien for me, or perhaps a dwarf-related one?

I'll be putting in some of Goldos skins next, I really like the Guardian skin he did, infact like enough to make me play as the dwarves from now on.

I also might have a resource boat for those sea maps, so you can go collect Tuna, Shark and Dolphin ect ect (or whatever was in those waters in middle-earth, and hopefully not Shark and Dolphin, PETA? lol)

Also I might want to make the builders like Age of Empire, where one builder can be added to a structure to make it a faster buildtime. Is that possible? I'm guessing a special power is, but it would be better if they ran into the structure like normal and built it.

Added Nanduhirion into the game, I LOVE that map, easily the best 8 player map in the game IMO...

I'm curious to see what it is you're doing in regards to the resource boat.

Oh you will just build it and it just collects resources like a Farm, If it was ever possible then like the orc laborer you would put it back to the structure that you build on the island, but you wouldn't get resources every 10 seconds, you would get a massive resource in about 3 mins or so as if you just caught a lot of fish ect?

I was just playing Age of Mythology the other month and it gave me that idea.

Ok here's the video

http://www.moddb.com...ources#imagebox

I set the resource collecting to 5 seconds in the video, but every 25 seconds it will collect 280 resources.

I will need help though, need a new model (maybe there is one ingame?) that can replace the transport ship... and I will do an evil side one now.

Oh yeh, and one thing, when looking through your pictures, turn off housecolor, as it ruins the textures imho
