Hello everyone
I’m reporting a lot of issues I have noticed when I compare the current one to the version 1.46.
First, the Training Mission 2 used to be re-textured with snow. But on this new 2.0 version (and then 2.1), the map is back to the original texture surprisingly. I kept a copy of the mission files of the 1.46, do you think I can replace one of the files in order to regain the snowy texture in the 2.1 version ? If yes, which file would it be ? Because the TU02 folder is such a mess, I think there are several missions here.
(I wanted to add here a screenshot of the re-textured map from the 1.46, but for some reason I cannot add pictures from my Desktop, I don't know how it works...)
Then, I notice that the new sounds for gun fires, vehicles, etc… are no longer. I remember that was somewhat an issue at very first, like the truck constantly switching between the original and the previous Commandos games’ sounds, which was really a bad idea I think. But I had managed to fix this by myself : I edited the SONIDOS.LIS file (in the DATA/SONIDOS folder) with Wordpad, and all I had to do was to remove the extra file names on every line (easily recognisable with some stuff in non-capital letters, usually something like “ab” and stuff in their name), and then game was perfect, with new sounds, but not too much with the weird cross-games combinations. But now, I find it pity to not have any new sound anymore, because the SONIDOS.LIS has been removed, and I tried to put it back manually into the folder, the game doesn’t recognise it anymore. That’s weird especially when the sound of the rifle shooting is longer than the shot itself, making that you can shoot a second shot with the sound not replaying because the first sound is still playing. I hope the explanation is clear enough and you know what I mean. Any idea if I can get the SONIDOS.LIS file recognised again by the game like in 1.46 ?
Other signs that caught my attention are the inventory, which had been re-textured as well in 1.46, but now it’s back to the original one. And even in the mission selection menu, the difficulties are once again shown as it was in the original game : Normal, Hard, Realistic ; instead of Easy, Normal, Hard. Oh, and about sounds again : in the 1.46 there were extra voices added for the Commandos, located in the DATA/SONIDOS/ESA folder. I didn’t like it, especially because my game is in French, so mixing voices in English and in French is kinda weird, so I was used to just remove the ESA folder. But here in the 2.1, the folder is still here contrary to the SONIDOS.LIS file, but the sounds are not played for some reason.
I’m sorry for this huge block of complain, but apart from the ton of new missions this 2.0 and then 2.1 version really gives me a feeling of a downgrade somehow. What do you guys think ?
PS : I remember someone also reported a bug on the first official mission, in La Rochelle, about the dog food, and I don’t remember anyone could solve it. I know where this comes from, I had struggled to figure it out as well but it turned to be obvious : the one food that dogs never go to eat is the food you found as an item lying on the ground, on the roof of the sub pen. Dog food is coded so that any dog in a certain range (and I believe it must be a very large range) will go to eat it, and it doesn’t even have to be in their field of vision (I guess they sniff it). But the fact that this food in particular starts lying on the ground, and not in a furniture or a crate, makes that dogs (all around the map ?) detect the food, but cannot reach it because it’s on the roof. My theory is that the game doesn’t understand how it is supposed to make the dogs react, and thus makes this bug happen. That probably kinda locks this one food item at “cannot be reached” once and for all, while others can still be used as normal.
In other words, any dog food found on the ground from the very beginning of the mission is born useless. Only food found in a furniture, or a crate, or directly picked from someone’s inventory, can be used so far. That is something which should be remembered when creating/editing a map.
