I would settle for Disney to scrap the newer books, basically anything that deals with the vong story arc.

Considering that many of the writers in that era suddenly were just authors who got hired to mass produce books w/o having read but a handful of the novels themselves, the quality going downhill isn't a suprise.... not to mention the way they killed off Chewie was kinda retarded.

You're joking... I've never heard of a game running out of keys.  Fantastic and awful at the same time.

Yeah it's madness. Main comment thread is now over 650 comments long: http://steamcommunit...9149770023/#p45

Meanwhile EaW is #10 in bestselling on Steam! It's ridiculous. Relatedly, when I have time I will throw up a Phoenix Rising install guide for Steam in the community hub for the game. I might actually pick up the Steam copy of EaW as well so at least one of the core team has it. Then I just have to hope for the key to arrive...

Sounds like someone fucked up if they ran out, seems more likely they'd just let Steam generate as many keys as people would buy.

wait a minute, these keys use up to 25 characters, with each character being any of the numbers 0-9, and letters a-z, 36 characters

that pretty much boils down to 36^(25), or this many combinations

 808,281,277,464,764,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

thats for strictly 25 character keys, and assuming no non-letter/number character (symbol) is used in the code itself

Yes, but publishers will never give out that many keys. Firstly, it's not feasible. And secondly, the game will only accept a given subset of those keys checked against some value or whatever. In this case, Steam ran out. It was very disingenuous of them to keep selling the game though. They were essentially getting money for nothing. Incidentally, on the original Steam forum comment thread (now at over 1000 comments) a Petroglyph employee turned up saying he's looking into it, despite it not really having anything to do with them.

If only they'd thought of that they could've made 809,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,00! It would have solved every thing!!! But no! they only went with a  mere 808,281,277,464,764,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,00. Won't people EVER learn!!! :crazed:

It's shameful that no one ever got around to enabling Steam Workshop support for EaW.  I guess an install guide is better than nothing.

I know it's been quiet on the front page lately.  I'll get back to writing news as soon as I finish the major project that I've been working on for the past several months.  Adding content simply must trump writing about it.  If not for what we're doing here, I'd say you can kiss strategy goodbye based on the latest press release.

Yea I'd agree with that, but who knows maybe EA will surprise us. Personally I'm damned excited for the potential in games created by visceral and DICE. I smell a battlefront coming from them, it just stinks of a shooter. AS for Visceral who knows what kind of a masterpiece they'll create.

Correct me if I'm wrong: none of the three studios mentioned have attempted a RTS/RTT title; BioWare is already the "designated" RPG developer.  Frostbite 3 is basically a shooter engine; I'll grant that it could be modified for RTT, but I don't see it working with RTS.  Neither genre lends particularly well to a non-PC platform - not to mention, the pessimistic perception of PCs since Windows 8 launched.  Are they among the "most popular" of genres that the "core audience" likes to play?  I don't know - ask XCOM or StarCraft or Company of Heroes.  Somehow, I don't think that's what they have in mind with that wording though.  I'm not saying any of them can't make great games, just that I don't see a new RTS/RTT coming for a very long time.

No I certainly agree, RTS doesn't seem likely. But the potential for other genres excites me anyways.

Hi,

i have very enjoyed the game .... but after the "cant move my units" bug was happen and i read that it is a known bug (and one more example over the bad developing of the game...) i have stoped to playing the game ..... haved hope for an update .... but then LA close ... now i am unsure .... but i think no new patch is coming and i will sell the game .... sad ... with this mod - the game is realy outstanding as StarWars RTS .....

But not the first time we see an big potential game get crashed on the wall from the developers/publishers self ....

There is a slim potential for some form of RTS from Danger Close Games (EA Los Angeles), which is ironic since it was formed after EA merged Westwood Studios with several other companies. Some of the Westwood people left and formed Petroglyph , thus giving us EaW.

If an RTS does come from this direction it would likely be the SAGE engine as seen in the new C&C games.

Yeah, I agree. With luck eventually modders will figure out a way to fix some of those limitations, while the game still has a large enough fanbase for it to have a chance of growing.

Actually the newest version of C&C (which will be an F2P RTS) is being created in the Frostbite engine. It's being made by Victory Games. http://en.wikipedia....013_video_game)

In any event I believe with what's cooking here we have enough to do and to offer that any new RTS can wait for awhile. Don't get me wrong, I'd LOVE a new, better, fuller SW RTS. But the only way I see this as a possibility is for modders to shine, and by that I mean dazzel the executives at LFL/Disney; MAKE them take notice that a lot of not too vocal people WANT/CRAVE RTS and RTT. That's why mods like PR and RaW are essential to the "cause", with the level and sheer amount of work poured into an obsolete game someone, somewhere has to take notice. And quite frankly if they don't then we should collectively take it upon ourselves to make sure their in-box is properly flooded with e-mails depicting our POW. Hell, I've got one of EA's headquarters right here in Montréal, I'd even consider going there in person, of course for that I'd need something a little more solid then just words... like a petition or a very well prepared case with something to show them...

I'm actually pleased with the Disney/EA era RTT/RTS outlook: it practically guarantees we'll have a fanbase for years to come.
