Indeed, there are so many possibilities in Middle-earth, so why invent something completely outlandish?

If you look at comments all around the boards before the gameplaytrailer: "OMG SO AWESOME", "HYPED!!!!!", "I LOVE LOTR THIS IS AWESOME", etc..
It's carrying the name of the Lord of the Rings. It's a 3rd-person action game. It's almost like Call of Duty. I don't get the fucking hype there.
For some reason or another, the concept of this game is cool for the masses. I'll admit that I've come to look forward to it, but I don't get how the game sounded awesome before the gameplaytrailer. It sounded terrible, but people were still hyped.
Regarding the plot; the plot is still terrible.

Yeah sure the intention of the game is a bit different than what we would like to see, but it is a pity in my eyes
"To know what question we may reasonably propose is in itself a strong evidence of sagacity or intelligence. For if a question be in itself incongruous and begs for uncalled-for answers, it holds, sometimes, besides embarrassing the proposer, the disadvantage to seduce the unguarded listener into giving absurd answers, and we are presented with the ridiculous spectacle of one (as the ancients said) milking the he-goat, and the other holding a sieve beneath."

I was thinking the same Lauri, but I figure the same "OMG I can't wait this looks awesome" crowd are the same ones who were happy with the PJ changes to the Hobbit movies.
People aren't that discerning unfortunately and as long as they make up the vocal majority on the facebook groups we'll just keep getting crap.

The main thing about changes to the "lore" of this and The Hobbit is that these stories are so well-known by now, the producers feel the need to change things around to "keep it fresh." It's a similar idea to Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: "People already know about these things, but we need to make money. So, let's add something EXCITING*!"
*EXCITING here meaning anything that isn't necessarily part of the original canon, but flashy enough to get noticed.

When EA finally gets access to Tolkien's books in addition to Jackson's films for BFME2, but can somehow give Glorfindel white hair when his name literally means blond, golden-haired, and a great studio in Pandemic can make a mediocre game in Conquest, despite the fact it uses many of the same mechanics from their successful Star Wars: Battlefront series, its hard to have much faith in games set in Middle-earth.

Conquest was only mediocre because they rushed the last few months of development to get the game out before the licence expired.
Had it a complete development period it probably would have been a decent game, I wouldn't be surprised if EA changed their minds at the last minute with the licence agreement or that they didn't want to pay the amount they wanted.

This seriously doesn't need the LOTR name.

That is true. The Graphics make it look like something out of Skyrim. It does seem interesting, and being a huge fan of Assassin's Creed, It can be an interesting fantasy twist of it.

That seems to be a theme with a lot of the LotR products coming out nowadays...

Ignoring the fact that it's essentially disregarding the lore pretty much entirely, I can honestly say it's a fantastic game. Having had the chance to play it personally, I'm simply awaiting it's release now.
And quite honestly, Warner can pretty much do whatever they wish....including, as aforementioned, disregarding the lore. But, if you're able to get past the fact that it doesn't care about the plot, at all...you'll enjoy it.

Just like the Hobbit movies, this is a disturbing trend for a story/franchise that relies so much on lore and immersion.

Finally a facebook post about this game that isn't the usual idiots fawning over this shit.
The LOTR Trilogy page posted and the comments are for once people who are calling them out on what this game is.

I have never seen so many people "calling them out" when they deserve it in my entire life, refreshing, very refreshing.
