I'm kind of surprised European Alliance is the most popular right now, most of the time I only seem to vs Soviet Factions, more commonly Russia & China, more so than anything else, with PsiCorps & HQ just behind that number, and then the European Alliance & the Pacific Front being the ones I least commonly vs, excluding Scorpion Cell, Latin Confederation and the United States, as they seem to be very unused.

I kinda agree with that. 80% of my matches was against Russia or China with the rest goes to Pacific Front and Epsilon. Rarely anyone would play as Euro.

I've never seen anyone beside me played as USA, despite the fact that it is not a weak faction in anycase.

I guess there must be quite a difference between players who play mainly against the AI and those who prefer MP.

Beating AI is easy, but what if you are losing in MP against a faction all the time? Submit to it!

Must be similar to Kane's Wrath *cough* *Black Hand* *cough*.

As a new MO player who is trying to learn the game by playing as Scorpion Cell, I LOVE this faction. However, I can understand why some new players are turned off from playing SC: this faction relies very, very much on fast economy development in the early game. It took me a few weeks and a lot of defeats to figure out the fastest way to get a few miners out.

If you're not fast like a Formula 1 pit crew in the early game, you're giving away SC's biggest advantage: the ability to roll in behind your opponent's base with a few basic tanks before he/she has any serious forces or defenses out. Then, your tanks are fast enough to pull out when the going gets tough and losing a straggler won't cost you much anyway.

If you're a new player who hasn't yet become razor sharp with your early buildings routine, it can be frustrating to see this window but always have it close JUST before you're able to take advantage of it. However, once you've mastered it it's loads of fun because almost nobody expects to be on the defensive that early.

Playing SC in late game is a little unorthodox but it's not impossible. SC (and Epsilon in general) relies heavily on the "tricks" available to them - weaver trap, fake structures, using plague splatters to clear infantry rather than for direct damage, etc. Malver exemplifies SC's strategy by being very vulnerable on his own but very powerful when the opponent is distracted from him. (Even Rhino tanks and Tesla Cruisers are not so hard to kill when they're debuffed!) Speeder trikes might be the most important unit SC has.

A lot of new players like to win by building up a bunch of direct assault units and steamrolling their enemy, but this is hard or impossible to do with SC. I think that's why a lot of people gravitate towards Russia / China instead.

Indeed. It was nice to watch such a comment and not "this op, that op" things. It is also good to see that there are players who play with other factions like Scorpion Cell and not with China and Russia always. I think you'll be a decent Scorpion Cell player because according to your comment you already know how to play with that faction. Hope to play with you more in the future and good luck at mastering Scorpion Cell! :)

Exactly how Speeder pummels me when he is SC. :p With such an analysis, I'd love to see how you'll fare against a seasoned player. :p

I like Latin Confederation and European Alliance, because of Drakuv for the Confederation, and Thor Gunship for the Europe.

Can I play VS Speeder in a 1vs1? He as SC and me as China.

Thing is, as with any country I know how to tech up fast, played vs a guy yesterday and when he just build War Factory(as LC) I already had Tech lab at 40%, 3 miners and many defenses.

If you manage to tech up really fast it can be a pain in early games and btw early tank rushes won't really do well when the other player has bunkers with Flak Troopers or deployed GGI, same with Archer. Due to the small HP of LC and SC T1 tanks is easy to destroy them with minimal losses and not a lot of money.

IMO it would be better for Scorpion Cell to not bother with Tech for a while, they ought to focus on the Radar Spire and building another refinery and some barracks, Brutes are a real fucking pain in numbers, the faster you try to tech up, the more likely you'll have less defenses and less grip on map control, along with less cash, I'm fairly certain that most of the MM use hotkeys so they'll move very very quickly.

I still don't think Scorpion Cell has enough definitive unique units for their faction. They need some kind of unique Infantry.

Well, in the follow up to the release I was kinda intrigued by Scorpion Cell and the Confederation, with no choice whatsoever regarding Allies... I'm one of those RA players who never really liked them. Technological supremacy, sure... but when I was younger (I've been around a bit) steamrollin' things with a Mammoth felt so much more rewarding. Years passed and I became a fan of the more underhanded factions, the more tricks up their sleeve, the better. I started to enjoy the psicological impact of simulated warfare: the surprise attacks, the panicking, the sudden realization that your base has been rendered powerless and a driller APC has just surfaced. Rather than the victory, I pursued the thrill of being a a**hole... to put it bluntly. And LC & SC seemed to fit the bill.

Anyways, once I got my hands on the game, a strange chain of events left me playing USA repeatedly. I didn't like them too much, they seemed like the most cookie-cutter of the allied subfactions. But oh boy was I in for a joy ride! You can paradrop a mixed group of infantry, you have the fast IFV (And Tanya, kickass combo there). The Warhawk took some effort to get used to (Especially when a friend started using Wolfhounds. Eep!) but it's pretty good all around to harass miners and isolated infantry... and the Stormchild. Oh, the aggravation inflicted by those! And last but definitely not least, there's the Mercury. The sheer perceived unfairness of having that "superweapon" available even in games with no SW enabled makes it all worth my while. It's not that I use it frequently. But my opponents know it's there. And that's pretty unsettling for them.
So, even without really testing the other two, I must say USA has my vote for fav Allied Subfaction so far!

And what about the candidates? The Confederation and Scorpion Cell? Well, I'm currently testing the LC, and it's looking good. Loved the hijacker, and Morales is hands down terrifying. The bomb buggy is way more damaging that I thought it would be. Scorpion Cell I haven't touched yet (don't have too much time to play, sadly), but the prospect of a quasi-melee invisible commando sounds interesting.

...sorry about the wall of inane banter ._.

It was nice to read that you like USA and Latin Confederation! :) According to what I've seen I think you already know how to play with these factions. I think Scorpion Cell won't be a problem and good luck for the future! :)

Russia is my fav, because it's the only faction I've been using. XD. Tesla cruiser & Wolfhounds FTW. It's fun trying to get this slow ass faction to build and move and hit as quickly as possible.

Special mention to Scorpion Cell and Latin Confederation by the way. Those two faction were considered weak. but when players who underestimated them played these factions, they were proven wrong.

Both of them is meant for early rushes. They don't really support turtling tactics to tell the truth.

Scorpy and Confederation are for early rushes? Then, why is Malver and Morales a bit slow?

JK.

Well early rushes are good for LC but I don't know for Scorpion Cell.

Late game SC isn't good enough, both Tyrant and Plague Splater are pure anti-infantry. Spam a bunch of Catastrophes and repair drones to attack and gg SC.
