Since the goblins are already rigged, I guess Naz can run a test game of Moria vs. Moria in the private beta with as many goblin units  as possible and see how the game engine behaves. It may give an answer to the issue of high poly models potentially crashing the game.

Here you are Games Workshop painted version of Fimbul, in case it's of any use as reference material:

Yes Kwen I'm aware that it's an engine issue.

Yeah, once again... I have run tests with the new Moria Orcs (goblins). Can't remeber the poly count now, but Lauri said 3D Studio Max showed a LOT higher count than ZBrush. I think about 6k? In Zb it was like 2k. However, I could build 20+ hordes in game with 20 units in each, and I had no lag. I was just moving around screen though, so I'm not sure. But heroes should pose no problem as they are single units, not hundereds.

As soon as I find a solution for the problem of lacking rigging knowledge, we can test more in game and if it's really fuggin up gameplay and flow for sure, I "simply" have to roll back on the horde units (Hunter Orcs as well as Moria and Goblin Town goblins) and be a lot more destructive when retopologizing them, and caring less for details and caracteristical features...

:whathuh:

As always Naz I back your decision 100%. I also put a lot of value that you do care about the thoughts of those within this community and your team members.

Thank you =) And off course I do. I consider some of you to be my friends and most of you to be my collegues and fellow "nerds in arms", joined together in this community by two mutual factors: The love of Tolkiens work (and PJ's movies) as well as the passion of modding this game to our collective liking, however minor or major differences we and our mods may have here and there  :thumbsupcool:

I might sound harsh at times, but I mean no harm. I just have an opion that might not always be the same as others  :trickydick: But I do respect the thoughts, wishes and input of y'all, as long as they are presented in a regular fashion. I have not forgotten, that back in 2006 I knew nothing about anything, and I owe everything to the collective knowledge of this eminent forum.

Gosh, that sounded dramatic... but, it's true  <^_^

Finished Fimbul (high res) model today. Will start topology tonight, and UV map him asap... Can't wait to see him rigged to his warg  :evgr:

If anyone's got any good ideas as to what SKL (anims) might fit him, considering he's got a cape, let me know...

Yeah. I'm drawing a blank for evil characters that have capes... I think the mounted witch king from rotwk has a cape. But I have no recollection what those anims look like.

Just cleverly rig that cape to the body bones. If done right, it'll look fine.

That sounds promising... as there are not really that many cape based SKLs to choose from. Thanks Mathijs.
Yeah MTL... those suck big time, as most anims from RotWK do. They're not motion captured =/

Hmm I take it back. I was wrong. They are motion captured (the WK anims in RotWK), and they look good. However, not that orcish. That SKL might be pefect for a Haradrim or Easterling hero though =)

That's the point he's making. Bind cape to body bones, don't bother looking for caped ones.

Yay! Fimbul was a lot easier to topologize and UV map, than Bolg...  :thumbsupxd:

Body 3500 polys

Cape 600 polys

With any generic orc weapon given o him (can't see him use anything spceial in the film, he's all ready for rigging... but, to what SKL? Warg Rider as mounted obviously, but on foot?? :shiftee2:

You might try the Mordor Black Orcs?

Also, having reread the thread, sorry for being a dick.

I'd say use the generic orc skl or maybe the one for those fat black orcs they added in rotwk...he needs to be hunched over though.
What about gorkil skl?

@Irene: No problem mate =)

Yeah, the generic orc SKL is probably best. Maybe give him two weapons as well... sword and mace.
