In Topic: Get rid of artillery and push back speeders in the tech tree

What you fail to notice is that game was sponsered by LucasArts so all the units in it are canon. You cannot call these units uncanon because they were not in the movie or books. LucasArts said they are and since they have the people that decide if things are canon. You can take it out. Fine but you cannot call it not canon.

Actually there are several layers of canon. I didn't make this up and pull it out of thin air.

#1: Movies: they trump everything and the reason is so there is flexibility for Lucas to put on screen what he wants. Period.
#2: Expanded Universe Novels: they are the flesh that fills out the bones that are the movies, however whatever is in them can still be ignored by the movies but are tightly controlled so this is avoided
#3: Expanded Universe Games/Toys etc: they have value and are also regulated by Lucas but a LOT of creative license is given to developers for new content and are basically the skin that rounds out what we know as Star Wars. However they are trumped by both novels and movies and it's not often that game/toy material makes it up to the 2nd or 1st tier of canon but it does happen. Typically when novel writers wish to dip into interesting/compelling characters and bring them to the forefront or when Lucas wishes to move the franchise up a notch. Anyone catch Vader crushing the hospital room in EPIII and how similar it is to Force Unleashed? Force Unleashed is probably the best example as it ties directly to the movies and Lucas is set to make the game tier 1 canon as a result. That's how they are painting it anyway. From this point on you can expect this powerful use of the Force show up in novels and elsewhere as a result.

I'm glad most of the discussion is civil.

I think it's reasonable to change vehicle units to single ones as opposed to having them come in groups of 2 or 3 and at the same time increase costs based on the unit's ability.

Regardless if you have artillery or not in the game the overall scale of land combat in this game is just very tiny and vehicle dominated. AI is just too poor to move infantry out of the way of incoming treads that roll over them and infantry come in tiny units of 9 X 2.

There are some things you can do to mitigate for this failure and some you cannot. I don't suggest anything be done that cannot be done. I simply suggest something be done within reason to make it more canon and more realistic.... more Star Warsy.

It's true now they just hire small companies to work on big projects and tend to re-use them should it work out well. The X-Wing, Tie Fighter series of games is a good example with Totally Games. If you don't know who Lawrence Holland and Edward Kilham are you need to pick up the Collector's Edition of Tie Fighter from somewhere and be awed at the amazing gameplay. Even for an ancient game it's still fun and a great example of what a good game looks like.

You could try applying for some of the companies Lucas Arts employs. I would try to research the company in question to see what dirt has been flying around it. Just in case it goes belly up or gets swallowed and you end up out the door. It happens.

However Lucas Arts does still hire people from time to time and for many years has had internships for people. I'm not quite sure who they have intern for them these days. Accountants perhaps? *shrug*

Whats about the update for the Space Mod you promissed us?

Job search has to come first .

Is Phoenix dead or somthing?Jk but really a update would be nice but still.

Fair enough. I can update you on what I've been doing in the past six weeks or so. I talked to LucasArts, but they don't want me. And for an internship no less. Go figure. I have other leads, but they haven't run their course yet...

I'm not surprised they didn't take you bud. I'm writing full Star Wars novels knowing full well they won't ever be published except by me online and free for the fans. Working for LucasArts or any of Lucas' holdings is like working for any other company except for the fact that they hold the Star Wars license.

Don't worry a lot of us know what you can do and fully appreciate it even if the corporate world of gaming does not.

Some call it whining, others call it reasonable. In the end it's all opinion, however canon is not opinion and you aren't waging war on the ground on the scale of Episode II.

I would be the first to want to see artillery given a proper treatment and fully operational when you can fight on the scale where it would actually be used and made sense to use.

This isn't even a near miss in terms of canon representation of Star Wars ground combat. Developers can do much better and technology exists to do so. While I think everyone can welcome EAW's ground combat as a step in the right direction it is just that. A step.

Could you enhance it to make the best of what you got? Sure you could build massive maps, drop the fog of war and make realistic artillery that couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, let alone home in on a single trooper. That's canon. This isn't.

I have nothing further to add. All my points have been covered by both myself and others very well.
