Yeah, it doesn't look like that much purple. Look at the concept art if you want to add vivid colours. =p

Could have used those pics WAY sooner than this...
Anyways, I'm going for the in movie look. Not the props or the concepts. I've seen the statues before, and there's no way they are THAT red in digital form. I do know light has a vast impact on colors as I am a professionally trained graphics artist and illustrator with extensive studying in colormetry for art as well as technical equipment and calibration of such as screens and projectors, since 20 years back But, my theory is this...
As we all know, the "behind the screens" shots of actors in costumes often differ in details from the digital version seen in the movie (just check the redundancy on the markings on those shields by the shield wall). The Erebor spear used for the Iron Hills spearmen, behind the scenes, is one example of what is not seen in the movie. The red colored stripes on the armor on these actors, is another. In the movie, they mostly look golden or faded into grey. The bright red color on these statues made for exhibitions, is yet another. In the movie, they look grey, with a hint of purple in most scenes:

I agree with Bashkuga! As I said due to the Lithg and Dirt that the Shields are covered the Red Color is somehow paled and a bit darker thats all,but stil lthey have Red Color none or the less I am certain in that, which means in the Movie they had the Red Color! And of course they make it Darker Red for the Digital to look better on Screen thats all,but Red is Red!

This thing is what bothers me most of the time, same for the elves, they look pretty golden in the movie (I mean jeez they made everything gold in the final version) and in reality they have wood color. So screw their gold cause the wood color was more appropriate...

Pretty red? I'd say you need a calibration. It looks light brown, mixed with grey and a slight hint of red/purple. In other screens, that hint is purple. And in this one, it looks plain grey:
Here's actors, using shields with purple tint (and Erebor spears):

Only a couple of them use purple shields, most of them use red just look at this picture. Only the Dwarf on the right has the purple colour.

Imagine a Tavern filled with dwarves, that armor and shield on the wall, fire in the edge of it, some dwarves singing something, dwarves drinking ale, played in 3rd person view, with scripts that Halbarad1996 made for TLHoOTa
