I didn't think anything would happen when I did this:

Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. I didn't know that, or perhaps striking quick to the Soviet Base to capture the Beacon could be done at a certain time. Well that is interesting which is why that Beacon that control the Soviets didn't work but it's destruction will causes them to be freed.

Presumably because the the next generation of Psychic Beacons and Amplifiers were made so that the Allies and Soviets couldn't use them against Yuri. I mean, would you want one of your greatest assets to fall into enemy hands? This is backed up in several other missions where they're rigged to explode, or do other nasty side effects once an Engineer captures them (hi Ghost Hunt, you cheeky bastards)..

You may be right, but what about the Chicago Amplifier?
EDIT: Yeah, and also a Psychic Beacon in Monochrome.

Pretty sure the Beacon in Ghost Hunt is a decoy
Everyone seems to be arguing over how Yunru came into such a position of power,
yet nobody is willing to explain how Rahn's weapon is able to teleport a pair of shorts.

What even is done with that chicago amplifier? It's had zero relevance so far in the story.

"With the Chicago Amplifier in our hands, we can delay Yuri's conquest of the United States territory, regroup and assesses the damage done and plan for a counterattack. With the loss of our homeland however, we might require the help of unexpected allies"
It was merely done so A. Yuri couldn't just take the US from the Soviets straight away and B. gives the Russians time to find allies in order to strengthen themselves and plan future counter assaults.
You may be right, but what about the Chicago Amplifier?
Good question, you'd think Yuri would've put a failsafe in that one...

I had an discussion with someone that North America's state during that time was kinda sketchy. I presume that there is 1 amplifier with dozens of beacons. The later mission where the Epsilon had to "stop" whatever the soviets are doing (the mission was located in Detroit) was 1 hour like distance to Chicago.
Don't forget the American Survivors manage to break free from this chaos too. (Forgot where that was)

I really wish we knew the exact range of the Beacons/Amplifiers/Dominators/Towers/etc.

I'm 100% confident that Psychic Tower ranges are seenable by just selecting them in Skirmish.
Dominator's range is basically regional, and the blast range is 10 cells (no idea in-game realism)
IDK about beacons
Amplifiers are continental, and along with, it boost the range of nearby Beacons
I also want to mention this. If you actually assault the soviet base early and didn't capture the beacon, the Akulas wouldn't appear..
EDIT: Oh, Deso meant EXACT... My bad.

1 Psychic Beacon often controls one outpost or one base.
1 Psychic Amplifier and a few Beacons can control an entire nation (or subfaction), as seen in Soviet invasion of USA (Beautiful Mind) and Scorpion Cell's betrayal (Nightcrawler). Even if it's just by itself it could control an entire army (Paranoia and Brothers in Arms).
2 Psychic Amplifiers and a few beacons can control the entire Soviet force, but one of them is destroyed in Brothers in Arms and it was mentioned in Brothers in Arms briefing that the Amplifier in Moscow will be destroyed by the Russians on the moon (probably Fatal Impact).
The Psychic Dominator's current description (network of these = global mind control) is out-of-place right now due to the Amplifier and Beacon, so for accuracy and relevance, it can control a small portion of an army but it's permanent. Of course, it's a destructive superweapon so it makes sense.
Psychic Tower's the weakest of the bunch since it can only control 3 units at a time.

I believe Speeder explained it as such, yeah. Beacons are for local control, Amplifiers are for regional control, and Dominators are used for destruction. There is nothing currently stronger than the Amplifier.

Stating the obvious, but there's the "worldwide mind control scenario" from the Foehn mission lore found in the Epsilon HQ. Whatever "Yuri's tower" will be.

Which isn't currently in the game yet! What I said remains factually true.

In MO Psychic Dominator isn't the next step after Psychic Amplifier, just like Tactical Nuke Silo doesn't level entire cities. It keeps the "tiers" simple.
Descriptions of a lot of objects on the website are rather.. inaccurate, for what the story so far has actually been. Maybe we'll fix that one day.
