40 feet.

But really, I meant that I used the mouse 30 feet away from the base station.

Agreed there. My laptop with a Celeron of 2.0 Ghz I find about as fast as my old P3 866 MHz. There was a 33% RAM difference though (for the P3 one), but I'm not keen on Celerons.. AMD Athlon ftw :p.

When deciding on which processors to use in the servers at work, we did several 'benchmark' tests. Some included dropping the processor, lightly spritzing it with water, and putting it under pressure. Intels stood up to all of the above tests. (Xeon vs. Opteron)

AMD, however, did perform faster. Man I love playing around with the govt's $200,000 technology budget :p

Benchmarks:
Mail server: MAIL2001 V1.0
NFS: SFS97_R1 (3.0)
Intranet: SPECweb2005
CPU: CINT2000, CFP2000

AMDs are always faster, even if they have a lower clockspeed. Intels have higher clockspeed, but tend to be slower, yet a bit more reliable. AMDs can be overclocked easier, by all accounts.

Celerons are awful pieces of kit, tho. If it says 3gig, you can roughly half it and you'll get that sort of performance from it. Semprons are bad, too. If it's stripped down, you don't want it.

Just wish I knew how to overclock. I'd love to give my 2gig Athlon a bit of a kick up the jacksy.

I think it may be a setting in the BIOS.

EDIT My AMD Athlon 64-bit 3400+ (and you have a 3200+ one) has some options in the BIOS on it. If I go to 'Cell Menu' (description "change CPU's clock and voltage") there's "Dynamic Overclocking (I'm sure that has got to do something with overclocking..) and "Adjust CPU FSB Frequency" (FSB = Front Side Bus). There's some more options but I'm not sure exactly what they do or whether it'll be a good thing to change it.

At times like this it's quite handy to have a laptop.

Well, following the site you just URLed me to, I've just added a small increment of 140Mhz to it with absolutely no trouble. I upped the PCIE setting while I was at it, so my graphics card should get a minor boost.

I never planned to go massive with overclocking, but to go from a 2.01 to a 2.15 felt rather swish for a complete n00b such as myself :p
