^^Well, created in a sense that they weren't just normal trees; the elves made them, well, ents.

Anyway, I do recall Celeglin saying that he'll most likely keep the TEA castle (and most likely the camp as well) for Rhovanion, but I have a strong feeling that he'll fiddle around with some of the features in it.

Why would Rhovanion have a smaller chance of fighting ents then any other faction?

I never said smaller than any other faction, just a low chance of fighting them (like every other faction :p). Then again, doesn't seem all that unlikely.

No, I think they were already different from normal trees, I think Yavanna did...something....not sure though.....

But if you face rohan or another rhovanion, you're almost always going to see ents.
So that's 2 out of 6 factions
So about a 1/3 chance of facing ents.
That's more then any other single unit in the game, with the exception of lairs......

For some reason an ent lair just crossed my mind. Anyway, I think you're right about Yavanna; I remember reading something in the Silmarillion that she created/sent earth spirits (meaning in the form of ents) to protect the forests of Middle-Earth, and likewise Manwe sent air spirits (in the form of giant eagles) to guard...something or other. I'll ask Bard or Mathias or zimoo sometime later.

Back to the topic, do you reckon Thranduil and Galadriel and Haldir (with his sword and his 'Elven Swordsman' skill) will be enough to counter ents? Or, seeing as the elves of Mirkwood hunt animals a lot they (or namely the Mirkwood Scouts) could be a main form of counter against all creatures in general, even though arrows hitting trees won't really make sense.
Or, just for the sake of saying it, Galadriel's Handmaidens could have like a bonus against them, seeing as they can conjure up tree roots and what not. But that depends on whether they'll be able to attack or not. Or maybe (sorry that I'm raving on like this - I usually go crazy with suggestions like these :xd:) they could give a leadership bonus (that doesn't appear in the Palantir) that makes all nearby troops good against ents. Hopefully one of those will be enough. :evgr:

I just read the Theebeard chapter in the books....

Treebe said atleast that trolls were weaker orgins that *NAME* created to use as "bad ents" in a way... but ents were much better, or better, because they were of the earth itself, or something like that.... and *NAME* blowed them with life :)

Let's see, if the first one was Morgroth, and second Yavanna, it would make sense......

@Olorin
Maybe a huron lair? That broke free from the ents? Or something........

Maybe, but I don't think the 3 of them would be enough for all 4......

Yeah, maybe one of the handmaiden's abilities would do heavy damage to ents......
I don't think you can make a leadership that only would work agaisnt 1 unit..... correct me if I'm wrong some of the more experianced modders out there......

:) I was actually being sarcastic with the ent lair comment, but this doen't sound too bad. Though we both know that Celeglin won't really be wasting his time with new ent lairs, unless he surprises us.

Maybe, but I don't think the 3 of them would be enough for all 4......

I'm thinking Galadriel will be enough for two. Also, this just came to mind, maybe Haldir's 'Elven Swordsman' skill can give an attack boost as well, 'cause all it does now is just make him attack faster.

Yeah, maybe one of the handmaiden's abilities would do heavy damage to ents......

I've seen weirder and wackier things done in modding than this *looks at the RA and the elves who can climb walls*. :p It should be possible, I mean, you already have that trait in every unit: archers are good against beasts/creatures and cavalry, cavalry is good against infantry, spearmen are good against cavalry, and in this case, fire is good against ents. I think this could be implemented, though without the fire effects (i.e. loosing health rapidly, no damage in water, etc.). It should be able to be done.

I don't think you understood quite what I meant........
What I meant was that it would also increase damage agaisnt all units..... So to make them strong enough to kill ents, they would also do heavy damage to other units as well........thus creating a balance problem.

So I think it might be easier just to leave it as fire arrows.

Of course it would be easier :), we're just exploring possibilities aside from fire arrows that would still have a similar (if not same) balance outcome.

So you're fairly sure that creating leadership against one particular unit is impossible/extremely hard to do?

I'm fairly sure, yeah.
I don't remember seeing something that could ever define somthing like that.
Of course if a good modder would come clear this up........ :)

Ok, all that aside, what would the upgrade be then? Maybe........I don't know :p

Probably something simplistic, that just gives more ranged damage than fire arrows (seeing as ranged attacks are one of the major strategies/assets that Rhovanion has). But of course, it doesn't do much good against buildings - leave that to the Galadhrim.
Effect-wise it could be something like the Silverthorn Arrows from B4ME II, except without the massive and retarded knock-back.

The whole Last Twilight idea sounds pretty cool, but how will you divide the elvish heroes up so that the two factions are pretty equal?

Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken:
The crownless again shall be king.

And as if in answer there came from far away another note.
Horns, horns, horns. In dark Mindolluin's sides they dimly echoed.
Great horns of the North wildly blowing. Rohan had come at last!

the way i see it is that the elves over the misty mountains are generally smart happy go lucky type secretive people

and high elves are serious wise and in tune with the world if not much but a little

Yeah, that was what I was thinking, I was looking for a name :good:

piercing arrows of mithlond?

what you need to do is come up with names, like lothlorien and magic, piercing, mithrill bla bla bla and it should be easier
then put it togeter in different combinations and whala

^^Seeing as that's been brought up, why not something simplistic like Arrows of Lorien/Mirkwood or something like that? Or even Arrows of the Forest? There's not really much need to go into that much detail like in RA (what do they have again? Faradol or something?).

what you need to do is think up names and put them together like 1st parts e.g piercing, barbed, magical, mithril, glowing .... and then of and then a place or something similar which would fit, mithril, lothlorien, rivendell, mithlond... the possibilities are endless just choose one :good: or you could say crafted or something

the arrows could be like the forged blade upgrade and glow blue!

like i said * of *

it works for lots of things

also depending on the faction of elves it could change. e.g bows maybe? of lothlorien, crafted arrows of mithlond, barbed tips of rivendel

with the ents? i think your venturing too far from lotr, i mean elves fighting ents??????????????????????? jebus christ(or yavanna?) what have the elves done to the forest eh??? who would pit elves against ents there practicly friends! if the elves are having ents they can use there ents to fight ents although its unheard of!!!!! shocking !!!! stupid!!!! MADNESSS!!!!!!

i hope this ends the problem of ents

taralom, your imagination never ceases to amaze me, but yeah maybe something simplistic would do that sums it all up

also i think sentinals should have an impossible to code ability to sabotage an enemy building so it stops producing resources and units
