I wouldn't count on it, at least not in skirmish play. Will probably remain only for the Minas Tirith campaign map.

Will they be using crossbows or actual longbows/shortbows?

The old "Dwarves can only use axes, can't use bows" is a horrible D&dish fantasy cliche. Tolkien's elves use axes (Look at Cel's mod!(adummy add-on: this is the pic. /end adummy add-on)) Tolkien's Dwarves use bows. Crossbows are cliche. Dedicated Throwing axe troops are a ridiculous idea.

I find Javelin throwers to be far more realistic then axe throwers, if that's the sorta thing you're getting at.

Are there any javelin throwers for Erebor? I thought that I remembered them as being in the Rohan faction.

No, there are no javelin throwers for Erebor, but they may be available in another faction(s).

Do we really know that they don't use crossbows? We know that they are using bows, but it is possible that they use crossbows as well, isn't it?

"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides
By the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men.
Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will,
Shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness,
For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children.
And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger
Those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers.
And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you."

Well Tolkien rarely mentions specifics when it comes to armour and weaponry in his work, so we can't really know for sure. He never mentioned the Uruk-Hai having crossbows and yet we still imagine them so (at least in Helm's Deep).

Just wait till the hobbit movie. Seeing as how many designs now are based on the movies, maybe the dwarves/mirkwood/dale people from the film would spark a new norm for how people would portray them in games.

Well, I can tell you one thing: the RA dwarves aren't going to morph into crossbow toting chaps anytime soon because I've already modeled them and cahik has already animated them ;).

I really don't do requests and my Arnor Soldier is not fit for BFME. Don't ask me for either.

Burk-Khazâd -> Burk(Axe) Khazad(Dwarf) so a Dwarven Axemen?
Rakhâs-udrig -> Rakhas(orcs) Udrig(Bane) so Orcs Bane?
Sigin-zigil -> zigil- spike Sigin- long so maybe Long Spikes? Some kind of Pikemen?
Tarâg-udrig -> Beards(Tarag) Beardsbane? Doesn't make sense...
Baraz-Khazâd -> Baraz(Red) Dwarves
Khazad-Uzbadu- Dwarven Lord (Uzbad Khazad Dumu means Lord of Moria eh?)
Burk-Gabil - Great (Gabil) Axemen? Or maybe
Khazâd-mahalu - Aule Dwarves (mahalu= Aule)

Am I correct? (I hope at least 1 will be correct)

I'll just quote this earlier post, and not say anything more :p

Dude, I don't know if is a good idea use the dwarven tongue to name the units.
1st reason: Tolkien never wrote too much about the Khuzdûl,
2nd The dwarves don't use the language in front of others, so it would be a but strange all this khuzdûl names been used in front of allies and enemies. Besides, they never teach their language to anyone, they would rather learn their allie's language to deal with them.
3º At least for what I saw, it is roughtly based in the little khuzdûl structure avaliable. To be correct Khuzdûl names, they should be redone according to the avaliable knowledge of the language.

Sorry if this post seens to be offensive, or mabye arrogant, but I had an extensive work upon Tolkien's languages. Please forgive me. I think that those names should be in English, it would be easyer to all. It is the same that make the elven units in quenya and sindarin and the human ones in gondorian, roihrric and bardic, and for the evil, orkish, goblish and the Black Tongue.

I'm just posting this to help you, and because Dwarves are my favorite race of all Middle Earth. And for what I saw (and for what I imagine that is coming) this mod will ROCK!!!!!!

Nertea, I love your models!!!!!!
(ps: I'm not gay =p)

when you are playing as dwarves, is it not assumed that you are a dwarf commander moving your troops, so your not an outsider, it just emerses you in the game a bit more

Exactly, we are using the Khuzdûl that is given in the correct context, as well as the other unique names units from each faction will be getting. Biermann, you are not the only one that studies the works of Tolkien and the languages, us modders do pleanty of our research, so do not worry, for we know what we are doing. :p

In addition to Hal and Nuku's posts, I find that there is little reason why the other speaking peoples who had prolongued dealings with the Dwarves (such as the Bardings and the Lake-men) might not have overheard the designations the Dwarves might of had for their military units (for example, when shouting out orders to battalions in the midst of battle). And with the Dale being such a thriving trading community, I wouldn't find it unlikely that this knowledge might have spread to the rest of the speaking peoples.
After all, the Dwarven battle-cry "Baruk Khazâd! Khazâd ai-mênu!" and the various Khuzdul place-names (Khazad-dûm, Kheled-zarâm, Barazinbar, Tumunzahar, Gabilgathol, Kibil-nâla, Zirakzigil, Bundushathûr, etc) were known to the rest of the Free Peoples (and the Enemy).

All the tooltips are in english, so it won't be hard to work out what you're buying. And once bought, it will be obvious what they are anyway.

And it would make the game less bland imo. You dont want a unit called dwarven warrior, and an elf named elven warrior, and a gondorian warrior, or an orc warrior. I like this game because it gives each faction a diverse feeling.

What happened to Iron Hills? Their lines are empty. Are they going to be completely changed from what we've seen so far?
