As many of you know, RA is lacking the map department. So here is an official plee for Maps/Mappers.

Strategic placement of minifaction plots on the old maps and creating new Rhovanion themed maps are the main jobs.

Anyway, if you're interested in helping, show your map to m@tt (aka mh_gollum) either by PM or by email (matt_h88@hotmail.co.uk). Alternatively, if you want to try making a map but don't know which one, just PM/email m@tt and he'll send you a small list of possibilities- we would post a list, but it does change every now and again, plus there are several WIP's. To see a list of maps definitely in game, go HERE.

Thanks

Dain & Matt

Anyway, if you're interested in helping... DON'T EMAIL ME YOUR MAPS. Upload them or possibly one of the staff with a faster modem will volunteer to have a look. A few screenshots here would also be accepted.

Anyone can contact me to do this...I have a fast modem and have recently took up some minor mapping jobs to help futher testing purposes so I would also love to see a(or afew) skilled (and loyal ^_^) mapper join our team, because I do not wish to take the time to learn every little thing there is to mapping (though I'd might have to if push comes to shove).

Feedback is greatly apriciated.

I know all about mapping and scripting with the map editor, and if I need to I also know how to add in ini files to the map. I could help out because I've been following you guys for a long time and looks to be truly a mod that rivals the original game. Send me a email if you are interested at derekguedes@lycos.com.

Where is the best place to get inspiration, images, photos, info etc?

I was looking at the faction names, and I think these are all the possible maps you'd need, although some will already be available.

Mirkwood, Rivendell, Lothlórien, Vales of Anduin
Erebor, Iron Hills, River Carnen, Halls of Thorin, Blue Mountains/Ered Luin, The Great Shelf
Dale, Esgaroth, Vale of Celduin, East Bight, Dorwinion
Minas Tirith, Ithilien, Dol Amroth, Dor-en-Ernil, Belfalas, Arnor
Edoras, West-mark, Westfold Vale, Helm's Deep, Fangorn Forest
Mordor, Mount Doom, Minas Morgul, Dol Guldur, Rhûn
Isengard, Dunland, Adorn, Westmarch, Khazad-dûm, Gundabad, Mount Gram
Near Harad, Umbar, Khand, Harad

So could you tell us which ones have been done, as I dont want to have a go then find its already been done

I know a place full of mappers that will be willing tto help you. It's Istari Productions. Just click on the forum bit down the side. I could help if you want; I'm okay with scripts and ini but I like texturing and fine detailing.
The main site is slightly abandoned but that's because we lost the host to World of WarCrap. The forums are still active and someone from {IP} can help you. We even have JBV37373, Sharbutur(ob)Burum/Nordic Soldier and other good mappers.

Keep up the good work...

OK, I am planning to do the Vales of Anduin (no-one else do it!), I have a few ideas but was wondering, could a member of staff explain for everyone how minifaction plots work on the map. Just scattered around I presume, along with the economy plots. Also, how do we put these plots in?

EDIT: Here's my concept, done quickly in PS, using inspiration from the site description. Not exactly detailed, but I'll run though the colour coding: blue is the river, green is forest, dark green is the mistreated forest, black are the plots (currently two camps, two expansions plus scattered mf and econ plots), light brown is higher ground which is still passable, yellow is buildings and bridges.

What do people think? Shall I make it bigger in order to have more players? Any opinions etc welcomed, but we quick as I want to start asap and dont want to get too far with it if there is a problem.

You have to click the image to see the plots

Also, how do we put these plots in?

I think you'll need an internal build of the mod to do this...

Don't focus on putting minifac plots in just yet...you'll only get to do them if your selected, because as Dreamer said you need the internal build to do so.

Send me emails of your finished samples to nukumnehtar@gmail.com.

Lothlorien:

A 3-player map which is a conversion of the campaign map, the river and cliffs have been adjusted to allow room for camps. Everywhere is accessible, and various areas cleared to allow for pathing etc.

Vales of Anduin (WIP):
Posted Image
Simple forest map. Very empty atm. I need to work out how I will do the buildings, Radagast's house etc, as I forgot how little buildings are in bfme1. I also have an eagle flying about Radagast's area of the forest. There will be loads of animals when complete.

I hope these look good. It would be great if I can get them in the mod. Maybe then I could remove the wannabe mapper bit in my sig :p

Excellent work so far, mh_gollum! Did I ever mention that I've been looking for a Lothlorien map for TEA for the longest time... *pokes at seeing my Elves on the map already :p*

Can't wait to see more out of you!
