*cough*
You're not THE Coder for the team. You're A Coder... and not even that really - YET!
You need to prove yourself first, and so far we haven't gotten that far...

Like I said in Staff.. feel free to start coding EvilMen spell book. Assuming you know how to do that, I can post a list of spells I'd like to have in their spell book... =p

-Sorry, 'a' coder and 'the' coder meant sort of the same thing when I was writing my last post considering how tired I was  I'll change it to 'a' for ya. :)

Anyway, yes... EVILMEN SPELLBOOK! The answer to that is: a) yes, I know how to code the spellbook :D and b) can I have the list now? ;) :cool2:

-I'll have this one done for you soon as when you send me all the requirements (I can't go on Staff Forums at the mo as my login doesn't seem to respond to the fact I'm allowed access and sometimes the option to enter the Staff Forums doesn't even show up on my options list lol... so you'll have to post the stuff you want in the spellbook here or by PM if that's alright with you...? :) )

-thanks
Dr.Kirk

Allright, time to raise the voice a little:

CAN PPL STOP POSTING NONSCENSE IN HERE?
Do NOT offer any kind of services if you're not ready to back it up? I'm NOT here to play around. I'm here to produce a mod of VERY high quality. I appreciate the interests from ppl, but you need to know where you are in the world of modding. There are certain "user divisions" here at T3A that apply to most ppl. Unless you are Staff, such as Moderators, Admins, Leaders, Owners or whatever, you can either be:

a) Modder. This includes folks that can actually DO some sort of modding. That being
- Modeler (produce models),
- Animator (animate models),
- Coder (code INI files, Scripts, Hex, LUA or whatever)
- Artist (produce 2D art such as images, banners and buttons)
- Skinner (produce textures and skins for models)

b) Aspireing modder. This means a person that is in the process of learning how to do some sort of modding. Like for instance Rhodin, who's been our awesome Audio guy, now aspiring to become an Animator, with great progress in just 2 days! Completely admireable!!!

c) Beta Tester: This is the cathegory of selected Fans that get the trust of the Mod Leader and Team to handle the responsibility of hunting for bugs in the current Private Beta / WiP. Similar respect is given to ppl that offer their time to help with Support!

d) Fan/Player: This is the BIG section of the SEE Forum users, and the ones that makes this production extra fun, from all the positive feedback and suggestions we get. Some crazy ones not included...

e) Newb. This is the cathegory where you are on the vergy of becoming a little annoying to others, but you don't nescessarily have to be. Newbs often mean well, but come across all wrong. They still have a lot to learn before they can be considered normal forum users. But a "good" newb tries to learn in the right fashion and not bother ppl with spamming. I was once a newb myself, as most have been in the beginning.

f) N00b. Here's where you have crossed the line. A typical n00b often have over the top ideas like "I will create a mod with 100 factions and we will have this and that and here's the tech tree with all 10 000 items we will ad - in 1 month. But I need a team of 40 modelers. Please join me". A typical n00b often thinks WAY too high of himself, and he's not afraid to flaunt his skills, that he doesn't have. The standard n00b also posts WAY too much with a lot of nonsence posts that are or are very close to be pure spam. We've had a lot of those examples here during the two years I've been here.

Short version. For the SEE Team's Production Staff I'm looking for class A Team Members - nothing else! So, do NOT post of what you think you can do, post only if you KNOW what you can do! :D

@Kirk: I had to let you go off the team, and I explained why in Staff. If you want, I can send you a copy of that post. But I thought you had seen that by the time I demoted you back from Project to regular forum Member. I'm sorry, don't feel bad. I'm the one to blame that accepted you way to fast and I should have known better. I won't do that again. I'm in DIRE need of a second backup Coder, but you're not what I'm looking for. Sorry. Good luck though in your future projects and thanks for showing interest.

(EDIT: And this post is NOT directed towards av8tr, but to folks posting spam about what they can or can't do for this mod (which in term though makes us have to post spam to counter spam))

You mean screens? Why didn't I think of that. I was trying to upload the .w3d.

Sorry, I'm not real experienced doing this stuff. I'm used to other 3d programs and stuff.

Hopefully this is good. I don't know how to do those nice renders. The snapshot doesn't seem to do anything.

I meant the W3D. You can attach any file to your post as a Forum Member. At least you SHOULD be able to :p

But the screens works fairly well to make a judgement too.
That model is not bad at all. It's not great, but it's fairly good and a good start. I would suggest more polys to make it less blocky. Keep it up and continue to develop as a Modeler, and we might have use for you later on =)

Posted 23 October 2008 - 06:12 AM

Hey everybody, I was informed of this topic by zachdaddy in the member introduction topic and thought I might just come here and introduce myself. My name is Sgt. Angel and I'm a mapper for BFME, BFME II and ROTWK, I have been mapping since BFME 1 first came out (literally) and consider myself to be of reasonably high skill. I have made quite a few maps (it's my fave pastime!) and was wondering if there were any mapping positions open in SEE in order that I could be of assistance with the mod!

A couple of facts about my mapping style just in case you're interested:

1) I'm a 'detail mapper' - in other words, I like to be as detailed as possible when making maps down to even the smallest of things. I base all my maps DIRECTLY from Tolkien's books and the movies by Peter Jackson, copying things down to the tiniest details and putting beuty and accuracy before playability. However I have recently been trying to incorporate the action of playability into my maps and some of my more recent ones based on The Hobbit are what I consider to be some of the greatest masterpieces I have ever made.

2) I am a fan of the lore - as well as basing the look of maps off the books and films, I do the same with initial units and creep lairs. If it wasn't there in the books or films, or it's not there at all, it's placed out of sight in some tactically obscure area. If the map is in a part of Middle Earth but not shown in the films or mentioned in the books then and only then do I effort into make massive creep-filled areas that provide objectives and storylines to the maps I'm making as well as keeping in with the spirit of Tolkein and the lore - and even these are massively over detailed!

To Nazgul: If you want me to send you some examples of my maps then I can send you one of the following at your choice and request: Smaug's Lair, Goblin Gate (WIP), The Battle of Five Armies (teensy little bit of WIP with these two units of Goblin Archers that appear at the start of the game rather then when I told them to, but I'll fix that eventually), The Battle of the Last Alliance (requires ROTWK) or The War of the Ring, which are an example of some of my very best!

thanks :)

Sgt. Angel

Edit: Actually, come to think of it I've got a map left over from when I was first learning how to use the BFME II Worlbuilder called the Barrow Downs. It was my first ever attempt to make a map detailed and playable at the same time and so isn't very good and nor is it based on anything to do with the lore... however it isn't that bad all things considered, I've improved a lot since then but it's still fun to play. For anyone who wants to download it:
Attached File  The_Barrow_Downs___by_Sgt._Angel.zip   33.93KB   38 downloads
Note to Nazgul: this isn't a good example of my map making skills so don't download it and base your opinion on me because of it 'cause it's meant to be just for fun and was one of the first maps I ever made on BFME II. If you do download it though, I really hope you enjoy it! :thumbsupsmiley:

Well, blast it

To Nazgul: Don't worry, I don't mind whether you need me on the team or not, I just wanted to see if I could be of any use. Maybe when I get a bit further in my coding skills I'll come back to you, BUT NOT BEFORE ;) I hear what happened to the last guy who tried to code for SEE before he was ready and I 'aint gonna be following that path!

Hope you all enjoyed the 'sample map', btw, like I said it's nothing amazing. I might consider putting my proper maps up for download on the net, or perhaps I'll make my own topic for them somewhere on this site (not in the SEE section of Revora, obviously :p )

Nazgul, thank you for being so polite.

Sgt. Angel :)

btw, I'm being a bit of a n00b asking this but I'm still free to post on SEE's forums, yeah? just asking in case you needed special permission or something. ;) love the mod, by the way, it's a masterpiece.

Fantastic! Thanks MS ;)

Sgt. Angel

Edit: Oh btw MS, you might already know but I'm going to be posting a couple of pictures of the Battle of Five Armies map up on forum member introduction as well as start a new topic for all my maps on T3A, if ever you want to check it out!

Edit: Well, I return, with good news: the Battle of Five Armies map is now up and running in T3A map downloads section, with the new BFME II beta4.6 version out now and the RotWK version about to be put up too. I tried to speed up production of beta4.6 a bit so MS could play it, 'cause he did mention that he was intrested to see it, but if you also want to take a look at it Nazgul then I'd be very happy for you to! I consider it to be my ultimate masterpiece out of all the maps I've ever made! ;)

Once again,
Sgt. Angel

UPDATE: The Battle of Five Armies beta4.6 RotWK version now released, as well as an updated BFME II beta4.6 version and a seperate multiplayer version of each! Enjoy! :p
