There is a large difference between linear and non-linear. The mappers are focusing mostly on linear atm.

I had an idea about either the linear or non-linear (or both) campaigns:
What if the evil campaign starts at the War of the Last Alliance (or whenever it is planned to start) then includes the war of Angmar, then, after the Witch-King fleas from the North, the conquest of Minas Ithil, the destruction of Osgiliath, and the the battle of Dol Guldur (all in the correct chronological order, of course), and then the War of the Ring.
It could either be that you have to complete the Good Campaign to unlock the Evil Campaign (seeing as how the Evil one is so much longer). Or, there could be all of those missions fought on the Good side. I know that it doesn't make sense to play, say, the Fall of Arnor on the side of Arnor, but hey, you fight the War of the Ring as Evil when Sauron is eventually defeated. And it would be kind of cool to fight against the forces of Angmar as (a completed and polished) Arnor, or to defend Minas Ithil or Osgiliath against the forces of the Witch-King.

And I don't know, it just sounds fun and interesting. And makes sense to fight basically the whole history of Middle-Earth from the end of the Second Age to the Start of the Fourth Age.

The only thing is that you'd have to loose battles. I wouldn't mind playing a battle I know I can't win, but most people need to win to be interested. So your idea would be boring to most people

What about giving different objectives? The player will lose the battle but he has to lose it wile completing some "missions"; something like "hold off Angmar while your hero flees with the Palantir" (ok, it's basically a don't-let-them-kill-the-hero... :crazed: ), "kill at least xxx enemy units", "defend the peasants for xx minutes" or something like that.
The player would unlock the next level only if the objectives have been fulfilled.

Maybe for the Evil Campaign you will win, but on the Good side you just win your objectives but not the battle.
That way it stays canonical but is still fun for all players.

I understand that in the linear campaign, some battles with take place in the North as well as in the South, where would they begin and finish?

edit: Would most of the BFME2 missions eb excluded?

Gandalf can currently mount Shadowfax in the campaign if you get him to level 4. This should not be the case. It makes the battle with the Balrog way too easy

With the Balrog's insane knockback and speed in the campaign, Shadowfax is a necessity.

Careful. This link is DANGEROUS. Do NOT click it. This one, however, is fine.

So the question stands is that how do you win that mission, being bound by realism and the fact that Gandalf did not have Shadowfax, manye use a smaller balrog?

That's what happens when you play on hard :thumbsupsmiley: Surprise! It's actually hard!

You can beat it without Shadowfax. Only took me two tries ;)

i wish though, that the battle could take place at the actual bridge. Would be wicked and cool.
but i was playing on easy.... and it still happened. :thumbsupsmiley:
and it sucks EVEN MORE when you have to redo all of moria b/c gandalf died.

If you play the Moria mission through the non-linear campaign, all of your heros can only get to level 3, so Gandalf can't mount Shadowfax. And in the next mission (Caras Galadon), Gandalf is already "The White" and doesn't have the Mount/Dismount Ability.

anyway, i think the helms deep mission is a little too easy. Seriously, i fought the battle on the plains and won.

Is a mission of Amon Hen awalable in non-liner? Becouse Helms Deep siege is avalable but without Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli.

Just to point out, my game still stops after the first mission in Moria. Also, in the evil one it says game error Uruk script missing or something along the lines of that.
