you realize how much it is, then fail... easy enough

anyways... I TRULY belive that it's VERY hard and time consuming for SEE to port to RotWK... basically every stat is changed to a more balanced view, and you'd probably have to rebalance the whole game if you change...

Porting isn't that hard/time consuming...

I TRULY belive that it's VERY hard and time consuming for SEE to port to RotWK...

Different bids... ^ :good:
My guess though is also that it's VERY hard and time consuming to do... so I think I much rather take my chanses and move on without it... I started this topic though to help me/us contemplate on the Pros and Cons of porting, so thanks for all input =)

I do want some of those extra items, but we could instead:
1) "Lend" them
2) Duplicate them
3) Cope without them

And we wouldn't have to:
1) Redo/roll back on the ugly RotWK menus to BFME2 (or 1) menus
2) Spent weeks/months on making sure everything works under RotWK and perhaps even rebalance it

We would/will however have to live without Stats and CaH for EvilMen... :)

Most of all I'm dying to get started on EvilMen faction, and skipping RotWK conversion would bring that goal closer :

i would like to see some acolytes, wolf summon and wolf riders and the mini-hordes in SEE :) i agree that EA wouldnt mind. other games have done all types of mods. if the company discourages mod i bet it would influence their profits through media. but option is up to the s.e.e crew to decide :good:

no Stats? that's a small price to pay for having the EvilMen faction sooner rather than later, and CaH? since that's been causing save game crashes, i haven't been using it and probably wouldn't miss it all that much. ;) can't wait for EvilMen! :) :) gotta go play SEE!

I think for a mod like WotE, which has nothing to do with any macros, is quite easy (well not hard at least) to port to RotWK, but a mod like SEE that changes everything in the game would be quite troublesome to port... That's my opinion :)

I just wish I could get some kind of written OK from EA to use the few items we need from RotWK... that would make this matter settled in seconds :/ But like someone said - EA have most likely abandoned the BFME concept and moved on and thus we could basically grab what we need and be fine with it. Most mods have items from other versions and noone's seen any SWAT team break through their windows yet, lol

Seriously though... who cares about a few models and skins really. We would basically use like 1,5% of the whole RotWK content even if I grabbed ALL of that I want/need from it =)

So why not mail EA? Or have you tried that already?

They haven't abandonded the game yet, a new Price-winning GameReplays event is organized in Cooperation with EA, Just read that on lotrfiles
Lol they're even handing out prices of 200 dollars

But anyway, how about contacting them?

"In cooperation" just means that EA has authorized it and is giving out prizes. They have nothing to do with actually running the competition, and it has only been authorized because Apoc is friends with Maddox and Vision.

*cough* RJ-RotWK - Bringing BFME1 back *cough* My favourite RotWK mod and there's no secret about the BFME1 content. I'm pretty sure RA makes all their stuff in house, but I'm aslo pretty sure there are several minor mods out there with items from not only other mods (like we do) but also from the other BFME games. Honestly I think this whole "legal" debate is rather redicilous actually. What are they gona do if we use a few items? The modding community is blowing this way out of proportion. I'm totally aware of this matter if someone would use a LOT of content, but a few models and skins - I'm willing to take my chanses on that and take full responsibility ;) But noone cares, trust me :w00t: EA have more important things to do than bother about some mod like SEE, however popular it may be =p

Must say that Im actually little annoyed of EA's ignorance in these things. I just cant believe the fact that EA hasnt shown any intrest on S.E.E or your contacting attempts even though it is propably the best thing that happened to their game since 1.06 in my honest opinion.

Well, I believe enough has been said. Just grab whatever you want.
It has been reported that some victims of rape, during the act, would retreat into a fantasy world from which they could not WAKE UP. In this catatonic state, the victim lived in a world just like their normal one, except they weren't being raped. The only way that they realized they needed to WAKE UP was a note they found in their fantasy world. It would tell them about their condition, and tell them to WAKE UP. Even then, it would often take months until they were ready to discard their fantasy world and PLEASE WAKE UP

Thanks guys - I will. It won't be much though, but what I stated before basically...

  • Some of the new spells to expand the Spellbook/range/variety! The avalanche would be awesome for Saruman for instance...
  • One or maybe two units, like the Wolf-riders !...
  • One hero; Hwaldar (to make the Dunland leader Wulf for Isengard)!
  • Two structures; The Mill for EvilMen pehaps... and maybe the Wolf/Troll Pit for Moria...

That can't be more then a couple of percent of what RotWK brings :)

Hi there

I don't know what everyone here has against the new blue skin of RotWk??
Is it that ugly?
In my view it is the best of them all( I know it's my opinion and it won't matter to you=))

But by the way: Just because of the skin you Doesn't want to take RotWk??

But if you are that disapproved I'd be cool if you port the things Nazgul mentioned up there as the avalanche and so on..
i think it would be Ok to take those things without permission from EA as other Mods have also taken quite
a lot things "illegal".

But in the End I thrust you guys.
You already made an AWESOME Mod so i really have faith in you to go on like before :)

hehe thanks... :p

My hope is that EA would (if they ever would look our way) like the effort we've put into polish their game into something that most ppl like more than the retail version, and thus make more ppl wanna buy this game - earning EA some more money while we get SQUAT

Hi all!

Nazgul, I first want to say THANK YOU for this, your labour of love! I can't tell you how much your mod totally addresses all that I ever wanted out of this series. You and your team have done a marvelous job doing what the original developers, for some reason, could not do themselves. Keep up the excellent work!

As for the topic at hand, my vote is a resounding NO to the idea of porting over the SEE mod to ROTWK. I think it is an unnecessary expense to your time. My reasoning is perhaps somewhat controversial, so polite consideration of what I have to say (by all) is greatly appreciated:

I think you can realize your vision for an expanded Evil men presence without the use of a 7th faction, and hence without the use of ROTWK.

Nazgul, you have done a fantastic job expanding the role of Rohan without creating a new faction. More importantly you stayed true to your vision by avoiding the creation of new made up units just to support an entirely new faction. What you have is something that is faithful to the core game, to the movies (in terms of the selection of units at hand currently) and something that still adds to the depth of the gameplay.

I believe this "sub faction" element is the key and future to your mod with regards to evil men and their place in the grand scheme. I similar mechanic can be introduced on the mordor side: you can successfully expand on the evil men contingent without the toil of working through a port of the mod to ROTWK.

I can already sense the building excitement and enthusiasm for a new faction, but it seems to me contradictory to your initial vision of creating a mod which brings the game closer to the magic and beauty of the movies. In creating a new faction, it is a necessity to break past this guiding principle by inventing new units not seen or mentioned in the movies. In essence, this move is oddly antithetical to what you yourself have stated:

"This mod is NOT about adding a bunch of new non Lord of the Rings type units or adding several new made up factions, just to creat an action oriented special FX extravaganza. EVERYTHING in this mod is about catching the spirit of the movies in the greatest possible extent...There ARE some new units added though, but they are ALL added with the greatest possible intent of making this game even more true to the movies..."

With regards to your decision to flesh out Rohan as a sub-faction within MOTW rather than a full-fledged faction of its own, you had this to say:

"I do not see the need for this [splitting Rohan off as a separate faction] since splitting the race of Men into two would equal splitting the Elves into Mirkwood, Lorien, Mithlond, and so on. Or splitting Mordor into Mordor, Rhun, Harad, and so on."

Please, with the utmost respect for what you created, I beg you to reconsider using ROTWK just simply to create a faction that does not fit the intent and vision of what you originally sough out to do. If people want an evil men faction, there is always the fantastic RJ ROTWK mod. As for SEE, please stay the course and simply perfect what you already have.

Thank you for reading.

-a concerned fan

Thanks for that well written post. It was an interesting read, and I understand you views. Thanks for you praise as well... :)
(Sorry for the delayed response though, but I've been ill)

However, I still still think the game needs a separeat EvilMen faction, since I can't really see Rhün and Harad as a part of Mordor. In the movies they clearly entered in the final stages of the battle, and they were never a "part" of the Mordor forces, but rather an addition and a reinforcement.

Men on the other hand are undoubtably of the same race, just like I see the different "tribes" of Elves to fit under one faction as Elves. But Mordor is separate in my mind from Rhün and Harad. There's just SO many cool things we can do with that faction alone, and still have Mordor be the strongest evil faction as it should be.

We will NOT use RotWK though, so we won't have to venture into that dreadful coding, but I will "steal" some minor elements from it, like 1-2% content and take my chances with that ;)

I think you wil be happy with the finished product later on... :wink_new:

hmm....you might be able to use the skeleton from the Half-Troll swordsmen to make one of the new goblin heroes....in fact, you could get a wealth of skeletons and animations from RotWK for the new units. You could even go far enough as using the Hill troll animation for a new dwarven unit. Lots of binding and perhaps new models, but hey. free anims. =D
If I were you and you were me I'd have a different face.

Good idea, even though I'm not sure how much new stuff they actually did for RotWK. I mean in terms of bones and anims. Isn't most of it just resused BFME1&2 stuff?
