I dont know about secret forums, but they were almost certainly used as concepts for some of RA's mirkwood buildings...
Or, they used RA's designs as concepts for these ^_^ I really don't know, but I've seen em before.

Well, I probably should say this to make sure things don't go down the direction of treehouses for Mirkwood. (I might be a little late, but need to mention it). I would be surprised (for RJ) if Mirkwood had buildings anything at all like Lothlorien's. If anything, Elfhelm is heading down the right path of what I'd imagined.

My ideal for quite some time for the fortress, if ever I could get it working correctly, I would love to be able to do the hill fortress as described, with the tunnels leading out, etc. But then think Erebor - as you get closer to the hill, the hill then fades a little and you can see inside. It probably would never work exactly the way I want, but that was always an ideal.

Just thought I'd mention it,
Robert J.

And I'm against a big tree...cause that's what lorien already is. Out of all the above suggestions so far, I'd prefer elfhelm's.

That's why I wasn't too confident with my suggestion.

What if the fortress was a mangrove? Here's a picture link of what a mangrove is:

http://upload.wikime...evisa,_Kuba.jpg

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think that it ever mentions in the books where Thranduil's Halls were exactly located. So I imagine that it would be by a river because Bilbo rode down a river to Lake-Town in a barrel. I forget which river he rode on though, but it might have been the Enchanted river? Anyways having a fortress on a Mangrove could be something to play with/consider.

I'm going to have to go with the caves on this one as well. But I don't think that the Elves would ever build through the caves, just around them like the Lorien elves.

Well, Thranduil's Halls really is just a cave system built into a hill. The fortress would follow this concept, as this is where they could hold up for some period of time. Other buildings would not be caves, but wooden structures along the lines of some of the concepts shown.

If I remember corrrectly, Dol Guldur was once, under a different name, the captial of the woodland realm until it was taken and the retreat to the halls.

Aye, Dul Guldor was at one point a city of the Silvan Elves under Oropher. Thranduil came to power after his father's death, but abandoned it and moved north several times to keep a safe distance between his people and Mordor. Eventually the Necromancer came there and transformed it into wha we now know as Dul Guldor.
Cheers,
-mike

If I recall corrrectly, Dol Goldur (translates from Sindarin [I think] as Hill of Sorcery or something like that) was originally Amon Lanc when Thranduil controlled it. Then, as has been mentioned... stupid dumbbutt Sauron the Necromancer had to ruin everything... If only everything were as easy as the pie you eat (a bit of OT, pi is something like 3.14159265357989, and yes, I remember that much of the deuced number).
I'm creeping, not gone.

wow awasome, i " hungered " to see how a P looks ^_^
(if you want to act cool, at least try to use something from LOTR, lore, movies or something . . . )
"Let this scar signify the first blow against the mortal world."
"From this seal shall arise the doom of men,"
"who, in their arrogance, sought to wield our fire as their own."
"Blindly they build their kingdoms upon stolen knowledge and conceit."
"Now they shall be consumed by the very flame they sought to control."
"Let the echoes of doom resound across this wretched world, that all who live may hear them and despair."

"Tremble, mortals, and despair! Doom has come to this world!"

sure, i wont disagree but since i dont remember that lotr has something with Pi, i took it as a way to " act cool " which makes me to give some " as you said - head bashing " respond

look at the posts, i didnt say a word about the interesting stuff what CIL said about Amon Lanc - coz i didnt know that myself, it was even more interesting. My respects for you, for such knowladge of LOTR is beyiond my grip

someone's cranky :p ^_^ :p
I'm not too keen on the moat idea... I mean, a moat for at-first-glance-a-hill would look strange. Unless, that is, you're not planning on using the EA moat. That would look strange indeed! :p

agreed,

hill + moat = surely not, a baby hill with moat.

I have found nice screenshot of elven Fortress of Lineage II. I think that it confirm the elves style that Rob is imagining...
Just for your distraction, show with admiration a brief view of this nice game ;)

O slender as a willow-wand! O clearer than clear water!
O reed by the living pool! Fair river-daughter!
O spring-time and summer-time, and spring again after!
O wind on the waterfall, and the leaves' laughter!

Old Tom Bombadil is a merry fellow;
Bright blue his jacket is, and his boots are yellow.

Very nice screens. That is more along the lines that I'm looking for!

And the moat is supposed to represent the river, not an actual moat for a hill ;)

Agreed, it looks nice, just that the halls look a teeny bit too grand in their design.
