SWG, the lizardmen don't wear the collars. That's only for magic-users, and lizardmen are not known to have any magical ability. And the collars only restrict the flow of magical ability, they don't make someone savage or stupid. That's just some plain old-fashioned repression and slavery.

'The collars'? We have collars somewhere now? I just made up the collars then as a prop to use; both as a device so that we can actually free them, and as a reminded that they aren't just mindless beasts, that the savage ones are only savage cause they're controlled by magic (seen as we seem to have a bit of 'vyre syndrome' starting up*).

The magic mind-blocking has to come from somewhere, thus i made up the magic collar as that makes it accessible for us on the spot (rather than having it some crystal or something in a far off land, or having to have some magi hanging around everywhere directly blocking their sentience which seems a bit silly)

By having the collar we have a clear signal to tell weather the lizardman is sentient or not, we can also remove the collars to free lizardmen when we need to, and it explains how the lizard men are controlled too.

Mainly it was cause i was setting up for my guy to free the lizardmen, but if they're sentience is still suppressed they'd just step out and start killing the villagers mindlessly, which is not something my guy would do/want. This way i can have him break off the magic collars to free them (also opening up a group of lizardmen as a possible plot device now or later on)

So if you've gone and edited my post can you go and change it back? the collars just make things easier (unless you have a particularly good reason against collars for the enslaved lizardmen?)

*where we forget that they are actually sentient and just seem to throw them in anywhere as fearsome sounding brainless cannon fodder.

All the lizardmen are sentient. They're a slave race, they're not animals. As I said above, it's just plain ol' repression. Brainwashing, slavery and extreme governmental oppression being all they know makes it unlikely that many of them would break out. Just look how it long it took for black people to break out of slavery in the Deep South, but it wasn't for lack of trying. It was because the system was put in place to ensure they remained enslaved. The lizardmen are held in a similar way, except that this one is also enforced by magic, wielded by their owners. But the magic is mostly incidental, the real problem is just that the lizardmen are slaves. Not everything in this world has to revolve around magic.

I tried posting today but I failed spectacularly. I'll post tomorrow.

Had my last day of high school -ever- today, and tomorrow (less than 45 minutes local time, but it was really something like 4PM [in Arizona, where I was delivered] when I popped out) my body has been out of my mother's womb for 18 years. Asides from work, I have a lot of free time on my hands now. So I'll be posting.

Oh cool, happy birthday. And congratulations on finishing school. Now you get to deal with university and all the rest of whatever the hell happens in America when you turn 18! See, if you were in England, you'd now be able to drink, smoke, get married, rent porn, do more or less anything you like except get insured on really expensive cars, drive heavy goods vehicles or become a Member of Parliament. So, what's the plan?

Welll... I can smoke, buy porn, go to strip clubs, go to dance clubs, get married I believe... so I'm hoping I do at least one of those (who buys porn these days?).

I suggest that you try basically everything you can at least once, and stick with it if it makes you happy. I also suggest that all of you guys get back to posting in the storylines. That is, after all, why we're all here.

Man, we've got a month of travelling down the entire coast of Trivandor before we get to Mirmida. Feel free to get up to some shenanigans before we arrive, and we'll run into you when we get there. It's a big world and we'll be moving slowly, on acount of we've got families and children and buttloads of merchant stuff slowing us down.

Shenanigans. Well, seeing as I designed this plot arc with shenanigans in mind... shenanigans shouldn't be too much trouble.

Awesome. Something for us to look forward to while we march on down to your locale. By the way, please be so kind as to leave at least some of your various Paladin sub-groups alive. They're always useful for a storyline. :D

In the meantime, why not go have a read of part one of Zhar and Varin's fight over in the Arsencian Archive? Yes, I am working tirelessly for your edification and entertainment. Also, because Zhar is a brilliant character to write. He's so much fun. :xcahik_:

Mike, I am immensely pleased that you have chosen to quote me on your profile. I was rather happy with that passage myself. It's good to throw in bits of humour instead of taking the whole thing far too seriously, as some people do.

If I could take up writing professionally, that would be unbelievably awesome. However, I don't really see it happening. I never seem to have the commitment to see the whole thing through.

I really suggest that you do go into it at some point in your life, Vortigern. You've definitely got the talent for it, and the drive for motivation will come easily enough when you realize that your survival relies on cranking out those next few pages :xcahik_:

Yeah, with Zhar you can do things that wouldn't quite work with other characters. I found him to be quite enjoyable. I already miss him.

Anyway, nice post. though i have now realised another reason why i don't like freeform: some topics remain active while others sit there doing nothing, and seen as i'm in the one doing nothing i have to just sit back and wait. Having just one topic means more activity.

You're right. Sorry, I was intending for Mike to post there, but he seems to have forgotten that thread. Anyway, I have now posted. Things are happening again.

But with freeform, some topics remain active most of the time, so you never have everybody waiting for one person to show up if their character happens to be integral to the scene.

Actually, no, there is a charge. It is payable in posts made in storyline threads. I expect you all to be debt-free ASAP. :good:
