I scanned the articles briefly, doesn't seem to be overly complicated. I'll have to read it more carefully later. In any case, here's what I came up with:

Posted Image

It's not textured yet (that's just Zbrush's colorize for preview purposes), so I guess it can even look more accurate once it's unwrapped and textured properly. It could also benefit from some alpha maps for the vegetation surrounding the pillar.
If you like it, I can go ahead with the retopology for the low poly version (I need a poly count though, no idea what you use for buildings).
Textures I assume are 256x256 and 512x512 right? Do you need normal maps, specularity, bumps?

Well, if you're happy with it, feel free to email me: ralphdamiani@gmail.com and I'll be happy to discuss the details. Otherwise, I'll be hanging around anyway. ;D

Wow, ralph, that's a great model!
Ignited into the world in a flash of lightning, it gleams faintly in the heart of its mother, wood. It begins as an ember, a mere wisp of heat and colour. Its chance of survival at this critical moment is minute, yet it fights on, against the unforgiving cold, against the depths of night and against its mortal enemy: rain.

What is that hand made of? Looks a bit weird, too organic...

I assume it's some kind of stone.. sculptured to look like a hand :p

And here you are Rob Alexander's interpretation of the White Hand pointing to Isengard with bleeding nails. I like the crude Orcish feeling it has.

By the way, it's from the old Middle-earth collectible card game, by I.C.E., in case you wonder.

That statue looks amazing! Wonderful work. How large would it be compared to units in-game?

Thanks guys, Nazgul and I are now in touch, let's see what else springs to life from now on.

As for height, I'd say around 6-10 meters, judging from the painting.

I have no idea... Maybe Námo knows? =) Or someone that knows the item from the lore/books? My personal guess is it's about 10 meters high, judging from the road in the painting. A bit too big for the game, but everything's scaleable =)

Firstly, the White Hand is very good...it needs more of a "stone" look in my opinion. Although you did a great job making it look like the painting, mate. :thumbsupsmiley:

Secondly, Saruman's an Istari. I'm sure his magic is plenty enough to give himself a manicure if he wants. :xcahik_:

Also, Arthadan, Ralph, and khamulrulz, you guys need avatars :p. All your posts looking alike is kinda confusing...

There's no texture yet on that hand, I expect it to look more like stone with appropriate lighting (Zbrush's lights are terrible to setup) and texture.

You're right, I should probably make myself a new avatar.

Amazing model!

Regarding its height:

[...]Suddenly a tall pillar loomed up before them. It was black; and set upon it was a great stone, carved and painted in the likeness of a long White Hand. Its finger pointed north. [...]

The Return of the King, Chapter VIII: The Road to Isengard

So, it was taller than a man riding a horse. Maybe twice a Troll height could do.
